Low price does not trump poor build quality

Firstly, product description is misleading -- there are no cables in the device at all, only a pivot. We bought this stepper August 2011, worked like a charm for the first 2 months. Squeaks were remedied with some 3-in-1 or WD40. After the third month we noticed the steps had less resistance and the range of motion seemed to decrease. Very soon this product will be either completely unusable or unsafe to the same effect. It's now end of January 2012 and the frame has developed major structural cracks -- the pivot bolt has sheared almost all the way through the guide channel and I had to use 2 stacked washers to get any more use out of it. Be Forewarned!

No, I do not recommend this product.

    Waste of Money :(

I bought this knowing that it's a $60 machine - I wasn't expecting it to compare to gym equipment or anything, just something to use while I watched TV. First, it came without all of the parts needed, so the company sent me the missing parts. And then it broke after 3 uses. I'm 160 pounds, so nowhere near the maximum weight capacity, and I used it twice for 20 minutes and then about 8 minutes into my 3rd workout all of the resistance in the left pedal was gone. It's still under warranty but honestly, I think I'm just going to chalk this purchase up to a mistake. It's not worth my time to exchange this for another one and put it together (assuming all of the parts are in the box) only to have it break again.

No, I do not recommend this product.

    It's great!

I was looking for something that I could do over the winter months instead of walking. It gives you a really good workout. I do it 30 minutes at a time and by the end of that 30 minutes I'm sweating and my legs are all rubbery. To be more intense, you actually have to raise the pedals higher not lower as someone mentioned earlier and believe me it works. I started at the highest position and found it too much for me to handle. It's compact and lightweight and I just stick it in a corner when I'm finished. I gave it 5 stars for everything because, considering the low price, it does exactly what it's supposed to do. It's simple and gives you a great workout. If you're looking for a gym quality machine with various programs etc, you'd have to spend a considerable amount more. It all depends on what you are looking for.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

Perfect if you're looking for a simple stepper

Pros: - Works great as a simple stepper. Use it for about 5-10 minutes at a time and you'll feel a good burn in your legs. - The LCD shows steps, calories burnt, and time, which is more than enough for me. - Fairly quick set-up time. Took me 20 minutes but I was working slowly, most people could do it in 5-10 minutes. Cons: - Doesn't really have any resistance levels. You can adjust it so that each step starts lower (so you don't need to push as far down), but that doesn't make a big difference. - The second time I was using it, the display stopped working (it was on, but wasn't counting my steps). It finally started working again when I took the battery out and put it back in. Since then I haven't had any problems. Recommendation: This is a great product at $100 for a simple workout. It's often on sale (I got it at $50) and at that price there's no doubt it's worth it. For someone who needs to target your legs/butt, you will definitely feel it in that area, and it gives you a bit of a cardio workout as well.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

    Does The Job

Compact device, but does the job. You get what you pay for so this cannot be expected to be an elaborate device. However, as a simple stepper, it is an acceptable product. There is a console that tracks time and calories and there's minimal adjustment for tension.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: how loud is this as I live in an apartment with people under me not sure if i should look for one of these, or for an exercise bike, which i would gain better from

    • A: This device is very quiet; however if you allow the steps to reach the very bottom it will make quite a thud. My recommendation would be to place a foam mat underneath the unit to absorb any accidental impacts until you get the hang of it.

    • A: Try tightening the bolt that connects the pivot to the bottom frame. Also take this opportunity to ensure that the frame is not cracking around the channel at the bottom.

    • A: This device does not offer variable resistance. After a few uses it will break-in and become more usable. You can use some 3-in-1 oil to speed this up, however this might cause too much of a drop in resistance. Just use it every day and it will improve.

    • A: Press and hold the mode button which then resets the readings to 0 except for the total count. Just press the mode button to go through each of the readings or push until you hit scan which will then go through the various readings in succession.

    • A: I'm sure you've figured this out by now, but if anyone else buys this and can't figure it out, what you have to do is: Once it's completely assembled, pull one of the steppers up completely. There was a piece that you have to insert into the back of the stepper at the bottom. Twist it in completely (ensuring one of the steppers is completely up or it won't go in enough) and you will then have created the resistance. Step on it, and now when you step down on one, the other one should go up.
