Swann Door Stop Alarm

I bought this to put under my door to stop my girl friend from going out of the bed room door (sleep walking) I got this specially because it emitted a loud buzzer sound, and it will wake me up and hopefully my gf.

this alarm is good for travelling and is small enough to pack in your carryon. i suggest removing the batteries so that it doesn't accidentally go off.

If you are looking for a reliable low-tech solution, this should serve you well. As the manual states - "This doorstop alarm combines the physical functionality of a wedge-style doorstop to physically stop people opening your door, with an alarm to let you know if anyone tries and/or deter potential intruders." That it does. These have been around awhile. The quality tends to vary among brands currently on the market. However, this one is actually quite good. This unit runs on a 9V battery - not supplied with the product. An un-anticipated feature unique to this brand is a red LED light on the top of the unit - low battery indication assists with battery change replacement. It also has an easy to access "on/off' switch located on the rear of the unit. The battery compartment is secured by a Phillips locking screw, a good safety measure on most security devices. It fulfills its primary function to act as an alarm reliably well. The alarm is as loud as a smoke alarm. That's good, because this type of alarm is meant to deter silent, un-noticed entry, most likely to occur when you are asleep or pre-occupied. The alarm is sensitive & you need to be careful when setting it in place; it is almost hair-trigger. The build quality is excellent. It is made of a solid plastic construction. Not the cheap stuff. It seems that Swann did not cut corners on the design or build. The bottom of the unit has a rubber footing that is capable of gripping most if not all floor surfaces. It will physically stop people from opening the door. As stated in the manual - "The doorstop is pretty tough - it will stand up to a lot of pressure applied to the door to force it open. In fact many doors will break before the doorstop does - typically, the weakest point of any door is the hinges." #Valued insight.# Once again, the trick seems to be properly positioning the doorstop - to get it as close to wedged under the door as possible, without triggering the alarm. You may wish to give this some practise this first, if you are dealing with a carpeted floor. As the manual states, the best surfaces to use under the doorstop are flat and even, with good grip. Hardwood, slate, masonry, concrete and so on work well." Thin carpets, tile, lino, too. It suggests trying to avoid thick, plush carpeting. However, I've been able to get it to work OK on the latter, taking a little care. When it comes to any security solution, you need reliability in a dependable product. Not cheap stuff. Personally, over the years, I've used innumerable security gadgets & solutions, tailored to fit specific solutions. It can be disappointing when a security device fails when you need it the most. This one shouldn't. If it does, I will post an update. It is very good to see that Swann is improving their quality.
