Terrible winch

I installed the winch on my atv this weekend to use with my 54” plow. On the third plow the gear stripped and is completely useless.

Unusual application for a winch

I purchased this winch to open and close the roof on my astronomical observatory on my back deck. The most important feature was the reversing capability: this winch, with its hand controller allows me to simply open and close the observatory (the roof weighs in at a little over 45 kilos and is counterweighted with 18 kilos of weight) for observing at night. The winch works flawlessly and won't be taxed so should last a long time. It is running off a 12 volt CCTV power distribution box which also powers all of the other equipment. Connection was simple and the instructions were clear. I did need to purchase mounting bracket but that is a small additional cost.

I bought the superwinch in a bag 2000lb model and have been surprised at how well it works. I recently rigged the winch up to my 25 foot dock to flip it and redo the flotation underneath. I secured the winch to a chain around a rock and the winch broke the chain and catapulted itself into the lake. After I finished laughing my but off I fished the winch out of the drink using the controller cord as I was able to keep hold of the controller. I wrapped a sling around the rock and hooked up the winch to it and it happily flipped the dock after being completely under water for a minute or so. I have also used the winch to pull 20 foot long treated fir 6x8 beams underneath our cottage to then jack up and use as replacements for rotten ones. over all... the winch owes me nothing.

I mounted this winch on my outlander quad three years ago and have used it as a snow blade lift every winter and to pull the quad out of mud on several occasions with no problems, however I did mount a thumb switch with relays so I don't have any contact problems. Please note that you may require a mounting bracket for your quad. I would recommend this product considering the price and the service it has given me.

bien j ai acheter cette winch et je suis tres decu par la capacité, bien il y est ecris 2,000lbs mais je crois pas car ma 1,500lbs etais comparable a la 2,000lbs alors dans mon cas bien je suis tres decu de cet achat!! moi je conseil 3,500lbs pour un 4 roues.

A: It depends on what you are hooking it up to. This does not come with any mounting bracket, you would have to buy that separate for whatever application you need. You may be able to bolt it to an existing mount, but you may need to do some drilling or manufacturing to do it.

Q: Can this winch be use for lifting a snow plow And if so will it matter what angle its mouted ator do the bolts have to be at the bottom of the winch

A: No it can not be used to lift a snow plow unless you use the winch upgrade kit as per the superwinch web site.

A: The best winch for you will be the Terra 3500. The part number is 1135220. The problem that you will have with the smaller winches like the LT2000 and the UT3000 is there is no brake in the smaller winches. They will lift the winch but they will not hold it up. The Terra 3500 has a brake.
