Absolute Piece Of Garbage - DO NOT BUY

I bought this for the simple task of removing a pin to shorten a chain, very first use, the little brace to stop the chain moving around broke right off. Went back to the store and exchanged this one for another, no biggie right ?.... Wrong, i tried using the second one and it broke too, the little pin pusher broke right off. Went back to the store, returned the second one for a refund. then i went back home and used a nail and a hammer to punch the pin out instead. Complete waste of my time. P.s. Maybe if they made this out of steel instead of recycled pop cans it would actually work....

No, I do not recommend this product.

READ THIS IF YOU ARE HAVING TROUBLE

From the negative reviews I have to think many people don't realize the extracting pin on the tool is removable and has a skinny end and a fat end. If you are trying to extract with the fat end you will just break the tool( and maybe your hands ;0 )So: skinny end to extract /fat end to replace, easy stuff.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Worked fine for me

I'm not sure if others are using it incorrectly or if they updated the product but it worked fine for me. Obviously make sure your chain is properly lined up with the push pin or you're going to have major problems. Also make sure you put the chain against the thick metal backstop and not somewhere in the middle. That seems to be common sense but I guess it's worth while saying. It worked perfectly for me if you take your time to use it with some general common sense and care. It was fairly inexpensive so I don't really have a bad thing to say about it. If you cannot figure out this device, maybe you should take your bike into a shop to begin with.

Yes, I recommend this product.

it broke

I bought it because it was cheap, it worked to get an old chain off, I used to to open a new chain, when I lost that rivet I was taking another rivet off the old chain when a tooth broke off. then when I tried to replace the rivet into the new chain to close it I noticed there was no guide and the space the extracted rivet falls into on both sides is too low, so this really is just an extractor but not a replacer. so I can still use it to open chains but I have to press my finger into the chain to hold it in place, it's annoying. i have to finagle it in some way where I'm holding the chain in place and holding the rivet to the hole tight enough that when I twist it won't immediately fly all over the place. plus the twist handle is too short an thin so you have to twist extra hard to get leverage and doing so presses the thin handle into your index finger in an uncomfortable way. it's not quite painful but it's close.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Why it breaks

Bought one. Positioned the link on the upper tangs, which couldn't take the torque. If you put the link against the heavier shoulders at the end of the tool it will work fine. I broke at least a dozen links as a test and haven't had a problem. This is one product that would benefit from a "how to" picture.

Yes, I recommend this product.
