Moisture in sealed bags ruined a paver install

Bought 2 bags of this polymeric sand and both had moisture in the bottom half — bags were fully sealed, so it had to happen during packaging. The top half of each bag was dry and granular, but the sand in the bottom half was slightly damp and clumped together. Because of that, it wouldn't sweep into the joints — it spread like a paste and had to be forced in, packing into the stamped grout lines like glue instead of falling loose like sand should. Once in, it was too wet to blow out with a leaf blower or sweep out with a broom. I had to let it dry overnight, then get on my hands and knees with a wire brush to dig it out of every joint, and rinse with a hose using a high-pressure nozzle to finish clearing it. The force needed to remove it scratched the fresh stain I'd just applied to the pavers, and all the sand between the paver joints washed out too — so the product never actually did its job. I've used two other polymeric sand brands before with zero issues. This was my first time with this one, and any moisture in a product that activates with water should make the whole bag unusable. Two bags, completely wasted, plus the extra time and materials to fix the damage it caused. Won't be buying this brand again

Magic sand for paver stones

I bought this product as I was doing an interlocking paver patio and needed it to fill in the cracks between the stones as it will help seal them together and help suppress weeds coming up through. It was easy to follow the instructions on the bag and it has sealed nicely.

I tried this even considering the poor reviews. It's not the money, rather the time spent preparing, sanding and wetting all to exact instructions. The sand didn't harden and a week later, rain washed a lot of it away. Oh well...

Bad choice polymeric cent

I purchased this product and used it as instructed, but less than a month it become loose and easily removable. In some other parts, weeds grew through them easily. Very weak adhesion. Not recommend this product at all. I had to remove them and apply new different product which worked very well. I just lost my money for this poor product. Pay some more money and have a piece of mind rather than headache.

Not grey

a month ago

A little disappointed because the bag shows Grey sand but it's brown sand. Doesn't match my Grey papers. Also Doesn't set well. I mixed the bag and did 3 waters but after 24 hrs the sand hasn't set and you can literally poke through it. Hopefully in another day it will set.

A: The product is primarily quartz sand with vinyl polymer to improve the locking action after product dries. Vinyl polymer improves compaction and functionality as a setting bed for pavers or concrete slabs. The vinyl polymer makes up very little of the total weight of the product (1-5%).

Q: Has anyone used this to fill in cracks on a concrete driveway? And how does it hold up?

A: I use this for my driveway interlock / not a concrete driveway. It does become hard but not the same as concrete. We have had to scrape out the sand after a few years to redo as the interlock shifts and cracks open. I feel it works for my application.

A: I had my neighbor to help me, so I am happy to assist. 1. Pour product out onto pavers/bricks etc. 2. Sweep it gently into all cracks A. Try to get all the product off the face of pavers. 3. "Heavily mist" the sand in the cracks. A. IT needs to get soaked thoroughly, without moving the sand, so you need a gentle mister and some patience. 4. Wait 30ish minutes. 5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 one to 2 more times. 6. Product will "crystalize" when properly set up... 7. Ignore weeding this area for entire summer! :-)

A: • 18.1kg (40 lb) covers approximately 3.7m2–5.6m2 (40–60 sq ft) with narrow joints or 1.3m2–2.4m2 (14–26 sq ft) with wide joints • Required amount will depend on shape/size of pavers or slabs and width/depth of joints
