Awful! Do not buy!

Wanted to shop local, I purchased from a mom and pop shop nearby. This was way more expensive than buying online, and maybe the dust coating on it at the shop should have alerted me to how horrible it is. Says everything is an electrical or a stud does not work. Thankfully I saw another review someone posted about holding it away from the wall for a more accurate reading. If I hadn't seen that, this tool would be worthless in my life. Now I use it off the wall, and hope and pray I don't drill into an electrical. I have so many holes to fill in all my walls from the bad readings given to me by this defective product.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Worthless

There is nothing about this product I can recommend. Stud detection is hit-or-miss (mostly miss). The AC detection will alert when the closest wiring is eight feet away. It's a waste of time and money, and a negative impact on the Stanley brand.

Worthless

If I could give this a half star, that would still be too much. Every place I put it on the wall, I constantly get the AC warning. When I place it in a different spot, if it appears to be working properly it might indicate the stud center. Moving to a spot directly below that one, it doesn't register a stud. I've checked on a one sided wall and it doesn't indicate a stud when I'm over one and it should be. Disappointing, useless, unreliable piece of junk.

Do Not Buy!!

This thing is so bad! I thought maybe it was something I was doing, then I found all the negative reviews and found that I wasn’t alone. I purchased from a local store and don’t have the receipt or packaging so I can’t return for a refund. Very disappointed!

Stay away!

I've tried locating studs with this device and either there's no stud where it says it is or it says I'm near wiring in the wall. I put 4 meaningless holes in my wall because it said there was a stud there after I just spent a day painting my walls. Waste of money!

No, I do not recommend this product.

Q: How reliable is this unit? Does it address the problems of the Stanley Stud Sensor 200 unit? My old stanley stud sensor 200 was over sensitive when it came to finding electrical wires (it would indicate electrical on all metal objects) has this issue been addressed?
