Wood pellets

These pellets are great fort kitty litter. The dust is minimal, especially with the hard darker pellets. They break down and dry into sawdust with urine, which I find easy to clean up. A few pellets come out of the enclosed litter boxes but so easy to pick up and I have no sand all over my house :)

Q: How long does one bag last for kitty litter? Thanks in advance!

6 Answers
  • A: Depends if you are sifting out the used litter (sawdust) or mixing it in. Sifting and saving pellets, it lasted approx. 6 months plus. If mixing sawdust in, and throwing the whole lot out occasionally, I'd figure on no more than 6 months.

Q: Are these pallets good to use with a Purina tidy cat Breeze litter box ???

  • A: I don’t know exactly what this litter box is, but these pellets best with a sifting litter box. If your litter box is a sifting litter box than yes the pellets will work.

Q: Are these pellets kiln dried? I'd like to buy them for use as cat litter, but I see that they use pine, and I know that pine pellets are only safe for cats if they're kiln dried.

  • A: Again, no they are not. Kiln drying doesn use sufficient heat to remove phenols. If you smell pine, it has phenols and therefore you are harming your cat. So if they breath in dust while digging, or they like saw dust off their paws after doing business and grooming, they are consuming the phenols. Google danger and long term effects of phenol on cats.

Q: want to buy pine pellets safe to use as pet litter. Surefire on your website says its safe but went into store and another type was substituted that was labelled unsafe for human or animal consumption. these are heavy bags...get this right or poisonings

  • A: When they refer to “not safe for animal or human consumption” they are referencing not to eat the product. It is completely safe to use for animals.

Q: How does it smell? I'm planning on using it as cat litter. But I previously used softwood pellets from R0na which smelled really bad and offensive. I don't want to make the same mistake with this one Does it smell like pine/spruce?

2 Answers
  • A: The smell is not overwhelming, and has a minor hint of pine. I have used the CanWick hardwood ones previously, and they smell disgusting.

Q: The brand, bag and pellet has changed from what it used to be, even though the photo of the old one is still in the pictures scrolling through. What happened to the previous one?

1 Answer
  • A: We've carried a different bag depending on what part of Canada you're in. The Granules LG was for the Eastern part of Canada, and La Crete in the West. Unfortunately Granules LG had difficulty supplying us this winter and so we had to fall back on La Crete for most of this winter.

Q: The photo changed from surefire to granules lg. Is this still kiln dried and safe for cats?

1 Answer
  • A: Our raw materials are dried to a humidity degree of +/-10% Then through the process in the pelleter the heat brings that humidity level down to +/- 5-7% humidity.
