Im new to fishing and was trying to find something I wont need to upgrade if I get heavy into it...... which is hard to do with a combo set. I settled on this rod as instead of it being an ugly stik with a Shakespeare reel its all shimano. 7 ft medium fast action 2500 reel. Very comfortable and well balanced, feels good in the hand, very smooth action on the reel and responsive (6 2:1 gear ratio). Backed it with 8lb mono and threw on 15lb braided. This shimano is all a person really needs. Glad I bought it. Only complaint.......... the placement of the lure/hook loop to attach your lure while farting around is directly at the back of the main foam handle so when moving spots your hand naturally wants to wrap around and grab the hook on your lure, not great placement. Would recommend to anyone.
