    A DEFINITE NO

I rarely write reviews but this trolling motor was such a dud I had to. I was looking for the Minn Kota 30 that Canadian Tire usually sells but it was all sold out. This was the only motor left in stock so I thought I would give it a try. Also, the two reviews posted sounded promising. I took it out for the maiden voyage the next day with the family and...the handle grip surround literally detached within the first 30 mins. Worse, the handle that controls the forward and reverse speed somehow came detached from the inside and we lost all ability to stop/start the motor. HUNK OF JUNK! That's saying it nice...Go with a Minn Kota. Canadian Tire has a great return policy and I will continue to support our local store; no issues that way.

Lithium Ion is the way to go

I've had the motor for two summers. We use it almost everyday on an aluminum skiff, usually with three passengers. It's powerful enough to push the boat at a reasonable speed for a small electric motor. The battery lasts long enough to get us about 2-3kms. My wife and I used to drive electric bikes while in China. Mine had an lead battery, my wife's had a lithium ion. Basically lead lasts longer and is cheaper but my wife's was by far more convenient in that she could easily recharge it in the house. I had to deal with extension chords, AC outlets, etc. As with our bikes, your'e basically paying for the convenience of not having to deal with a super heavy lead battery in your boat. You don't need to recharge it by the lake but rather can just take it inside and snap it into the charger. Couldn't be easier. And that's why it's expensive. Rather than a 50-60 pound battery, you're dealing with maybe 5 lbs. Rather than a 12v battery charger (extension chord, wires, clips, etc) you've got a simple, small battery charger.

    Nice motor for the price

500 was way too expensive but when the sale started bought it right away. A minnkota + battery would be close to 260 & this one with battery for 200 was a steal. Planning to use it on my kayak & SUP as it is light. Dont have to carry a heavy battery around. I am not sure if it has a brushless motor as one of the reviews stated coz only 2 wires run down from controller to the motor. For a brushless you would need 3 wires.
