Product Details

This natural weed/seed inhibitor contains 100% corn gluten meal which absorbs water needed for new weed seeds and starves weeded seeds of their resources. Simply apply with any Scotts® broadcast spreader twice a year. This product prevents germination of dandelion and large crabgrass seeds in the lawn, but established weeds at the time of the application, will not be controlled. For best results, apply in the early spring and late summer before weeds appear.

Q: Will this work after the weeds have germinated and grown? What is the best product available that works on Lawn weeds?

A: No the notice on the bag says you need to apply this before any sprouting. I suggest you do this immediately after dethatching early may when you lawn has started to dry.

Q: I bought two of these this weekend and applied it yesterday. The content of one bag was the usual corn yellow, and the other bag was brown and emitted a lot of smoke when I opened the bag. Is the second bag still good?

A: My suggestion is your 2nd bag was packed damp and was composting, but really a question for Scotts to answer. Depending where you live you may be too late to control quack grass now, however birds love the stuff unfortunately!

A: Note to reviewer NicoleL of Milton, ON. Further to my review that this stuff poisoned/burned my dog, the bag the fertilizer comes in says, under FIRST AID: "If swallowed, rinse mouth and throat with copious amounts of water. Do not induce vomiting". It should also say that some animals love the taste of it so it should NEVER be used around pets or young children.

Q: What spreader setting should i use? Bag says 15 but online I've read it should be 6-1/2. I have approx 1,000 ft lawn (front & back).

A: I have been using this for the last 5 years within days of all the snow being melted. It says coverage of 1000sq ft but I half that and only use it for 500 sqft. since next door is all weeds. Really knocks out the crabgrass and dandelions. It does not burn the grass like other fertilizers as it is mostly cornmeal. I just cut the corner of the bag and shake it out till I cover 500 sqft. The grass really comes in nice with the fertilizer that is in it and no crabgrass or dandelions.

Q: I plan to dethatch, and aerate my lawn one weekend and overseed with a split seeder next weekend in May. Can I apply the Scotts Turf Builder Weed and Feed now, early April? Other products you suggest and in what order?

A: Yes weed n feed prevention should be applied in early April before the weeds germinate and then again in October At the end of April or May apply nitrogrow , exclusive to Canadian Tire. I get thick green grass after applying this at the end of every month until September
