Really good

Love the look of the bluegrass. It is a much hardier type of grass. I re-did my front lawn and a portion of my back yard. It stays green while the other part of my back lawn turns yellow if it doesn't get enough water.

Yes, I recommend this product.

coated grass seed

Very much disappointed with the product. I thought it will absorb some water and not dry the grass. I always bought the scott supreme grass seeds and thought of having a change. My lawn is covered with weeds now and it is going to cost lot more for me to remove the weeds. I may need to pull own the weeds from it's root and buy sod to have a nice lawn. My front and back yard is quite ruined. I will never recommend this product to anyone.

No, I do not recommend this product.

  • Status of my lawn after 1 month of using the seeds

Just Blue Grass Please!

I have used Bluegrass seed before and well acquainted with preparation and time to germinate, typically 4 weeks but the result is worth the wait. Bluegrass is also more drought tolerant than other grasses. This particular seed has a coating to hold and retain water, supposedly to escalate the germination cycle and there is a 25% Fescue mix. I was surprised at the package's stated germination period of 7 to 14 days. My region, experienced very wet and below average temperatures in May into early June and while this conditions could impede germination, it shouldn't prevent it and this seed just would not germinate. Later I did another seeding and likewise, poor results - possibly the coating caused the seed to rot?. Scotts at one time offered 100% Bluegrass with no additives and it alway worked for me. This product was most disappointing.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Great packaging, poor results

Lawn had a few weeds and bare patches. Gardner put down new soil over bare patches and seeded. Also re-seeded entire lawn and watered as directed by package. More weeds have grown than grass. Dissapointed and feel like this result should be from the cheapest, no name brand seeds NOT Scotts.

We are sorry that you have been disappointed by the appearance of weeds in your newly seeded areas. Our seeds are guaranteed to be 99.9% weed free. Weed seeds are exposed when the soil is turned and will germinate right along with the new seed. Weed seeds may also be introduced to the area through the addition of topsoil or straw. Good "big box store" seed

This has been a good seed for me so far. Keep in mind, Kentucky Blue grass is very slow to germinate, seeding at the right time of year is important to survive summer heat and the winter. I watered three times a day for a month straight.

Q: what is the percentage of Kentucky Blue Grass? Some grass seed packages say about 60%, but this one doesn't specify

2 Answers
  • A: although tje percent of blue grass may be low percentage it is based on weight not on seed count .blues are much smaller than rye seed 6percent coverts to approx 35 when going by count.seed must be kept moist, ryes germinate in 7-10 days, fescuse 14 blues start in about 21 days .water regularly for 35to 45 days.dont forget starter fert.certitied turf tech.

Q: Will this grass seed work ins shaded area as well?

1 Answer
  • A: Theo, Scotts Turf Builder Bluegrass Sun Coated Seed can be grown in somewhat shady conditions. The rule of thumb for even shade-tolerant grasses is they need at least 3-4 hours of direct sun, or 4-6 hours of dapples sunlight, per day.
