    Better know something about batteries

This is a simple quick tester that tests batteries fairly quickly. Does a good job as well. Remember to properly test an automotive battery, it must be fully charged. Testing a dead or partially charged battery will give false readings. That means fully charging the battery and then putting the high beams on for 30 full seconds then off and on again for 30 full seconds to remove the surface charge and then and only then, testing the battery. I've used this in my toolbox and then compared with a Snap-on VAT tester and also a Midtronics tester, and all the testers agree when given a bad battery result. The charge and re-test result is a little different between the 3 testers. So good tester if the User knows how to test batteries. Never test a dead battery.

Doesn't Necessarily Detect A Bad Battery

My car wouldn't start recently. Took out the old battery and tested it with this battery tester and it showed it to be OK. I wasn't about to trust the result so took the battery to CTC for testing. They put on their tester and after 10 minutes told me the battery was no good and they would cover part of the price of a replacement under the warranty. I've now ordered a 100A physical load tester and haven't a clue what I'll do with this digital one now because I just can't trust it. My advice don'y buy one!

No, I do not recommend this product.

    Expected More!!

Seems to test batteries ok. I assume the numbers are correct it gives me. It sucks for checking vehicle charging systems though. Majority of the time when I hook it up to a running vehicle it doesn't even give me the voltage, just a bunch of dashes across the screen. Have tried numerous different vehicles with mostly same results. Not impressed for the price of it!! Definitely would not recommend it to anyone!!

No, I do not recommend this product.

Got this a couple weeks ago and what a useless tester. i tested a battery that i knew was good. it said it was good. tested a battery i wasnt sure said it was good even tho it went down to 12.0v after sitting a couple days. tested a battery i knew was bad sat at 7v and again said it was good, even said it had 50ca more then the battery indicated. never waste your money on this. the cheaper ones that are phisical load testers actually work. this one is garbage.

No, I do not recommend this product.

    Questions

    1 - 2 of 2 Questions

Q: At the end of Battery Test procedure what is the meaning of the displayed number? At the end of the Battery Test, the LED will show green/yellow/red and the display will show a number. For example, for the battery I tested it shows 775 and the LED is green for a 450 CCA battery. What does this number (775) mean?

    2 Answers
    • A: As I understand it, it means that the unit calculates the CCA at 775. Unlikely if your battery is rated at 450. The manual is really lacking regarding interpreting the results.
