I was able to put the tablet on the snow above the eaves and it melts right to the eaves.

Ice dams backing up.

This product works well but tossing them where you actually need them can be a chore. I ended up getting on a step ladder not to high and toss them and the ones I missed the spot I pulled it into position with my roof rake. It beats climbing on the roof and possibly chopping at the ice and damaging your roof. We will see if there is damage to anything in the spring even though they say they are ok to use.

Q: will the run off affect any shrubs/trees or flower beds below

A: The response from the vendor is the following: The run off from Roofmelt is a brine or pickling solution and will not harm shrubs or pets. There is no sodium chloride in Roofmelt, but if a whole tablet or undissolved tablet falls in the bushes or plants it should be removed because it can cause some dehydrating. It will not kill the plant, only stress it.
