Great performance and efficiency but heavy

I bought this motor to replace a smoking B&S on a Toro self-propelled mower. The deck holes lined up perfectly, and the shaft length was just right. However, the shaft diameter was a bit undersized for the blade adapter, so I had to buy a sleeve adapter separately. The torque this motor puts out is more than enough for the job, though it is noticeably heavier than the B&S it replaces. The plastic air filter housing is a little warped (or it lacks rigidity) and cannot form a continuous seal around the air filter gasket (solved with a thick spacer running along the gasket). Good fuel efficiency and barely adequate fuel capacity (just over a litre). Pull-starts easily after 3 seasons. No oil plug so you'll need to tip the motor to drain.

Craftman lawnmower motor swap

Bought on a gamble to replace the 7 hp motor in 12 yr old Craftsman lawnmower, the 3 mount holes lined up, I had to buy a blade mount and matching blade because the shaft and keyway were different size than the Craftsman, but Canadian Tire had the parts needed, It requires a throttle cable for idle / run / start / I had an old choke cable I used, but you can just leave in run position all the time. The brake lever cable was a direct fit. So far I'm very happy after a couple of uses, would give 5 stars but the longevity is yet to be tested.

Great little engine

I bought this engine to replace a blown engine on a 70's I H Cadet 5.5 riding mower. The mounting bolt holes did not line up so I drilled new ones. Started up right away. I have been mowing my yard for two years with no problems.

Before you buy this...

The mounting dimensions I believe are incorrect. It was made in Australia, there are 2 mounting holes about 4" apart and another about 7". I have not found a pump that will match to this. The box list 8", but that is not true, take this out of the box first before you buy it and see for yourself. It could be a great buy, but they do not manufacture this anymore.

No, I do not recommend this product.

A: It's better to get the specs of your old engine and understand your requirements correctly. But in our experience the outboard engine quite different from our products and we do not think our engine is suitable to replace the outboard engine.

A: A self-propelled mower requires bigger power than a simple push mower. You have to make sure that the engine is powerful enough for your mower. Please check the specs of the original engine on your self-propelled mower, if it has similar specs, especially the displacement and power output, with our 173cc engine, then you can buy the 173cc engine for replacement. Or if you let us know what size self propelled mower you are using now, we may be able to give you more accurate feedback.
