Decent Reel. Rod build quality is Garbage

The reel that this combo comes with is decent. Average quality, on its own I wouldn't pay more than 60$. Reel only comes with 8 colours of Lead-core (should be 10). Rod broke at the eyelet after only a couple uses using the lead-core. I put the 2 rod pieces together for stowing it away and the inner plastic piece for the eyelet popped off. Barely touched the 2 pieces together. Unfortunately it was after the 1 year warranty. Got it on sale. Don't ever pay regular price at CT, they charge way too much on almost everything in store.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Q: can this reel be used in salt water?

    • A: No i wouldn't. Buy a specialty saltwater designed reel. If you do, wash it with freshwater after every use.

Q: Line type What kind of line does the reel come with including leader and backing and what pound test is it?

    2 Answers
    • A: It comes with lead core line. 8 colours with about 50' of monofilament leader. Usually lead core comes with either 18lb or 36lb test. I'd say 36lb for this combo. The backing on this reel is braid (looks to be around 40-50lb).

Q: Does this come in a left handed retrieve?

    • A: No it doesn't. I wish. The reality of the fishing world we live in is that most baitcaster and line counter reels are all right handed. You'll never find a combo with a left handed reel. The odd company like Okuma, quantum and shimano sell individual reels in left hand. Okuma having the most selection. I have 2 okuma convectors reels in left handed. Love'em.

    • A: One is a downrigger combo used for Trolling (Salmon) on the Great Lakes. It is an 8’ 2-Piece Rod . The other is trolling Lake Trout in Ontario/Quebec.  It is a 1-piece 6’ Rod.
