    Problem solved

Our 45+ year old American Standard toilet in the Master Bedroom was running for about 10-15 seconds every couple of hours or so. This has been going on for over a year and a half. I traced to a slightly corroded flapper seal ( after replacing a couple other parts in the toilet tank ) so on a recent visit to Canadian Tire I picked up this part. When we got home I took the old one off after having turned to water line to the toilet off. At first I was a little concerned because the new part was slightly smaller than the old part although the flat section on the bottom was the same. I tried to "snap" the new on but it wouldn't snap on. I looked t the old partr and the nw part and determined "issue was that the hole that the flapper body snaps into was slightly smaller. I read the instructions on the bag and it suggested using petroleum jelly but I used silicon spray. Be careful to firmly hold the flapper body as you still must use quite a bit of strength to push the seal on but it snapped on firmly which wads good because the old one would "move" slightly sometimes and wouldn't seal at all until I straightened it out again. It's only been a week since I installed this new one and it works like a dream. Not one single "phantom fill" since. The smaller size still fits into the flush hole the extra width of the old one ( probably the original one but definitely at least 23 years old, when we moved in ) caused it to "hang up" on the filler tube sometimes. Only gave 4 Stars because it's only been in a week but a 5 star is warranted if it lasts.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

    Flapper valve

Used to stop the toilet tank draining into the bowl, and periodic re-filling of the tank. (Saving on the water/sewer bill)
