I needed to replace a blown-out volume control/shut-off valve of chromed brass that lasted 20 years or more. The control handle actually blew out sideways and water streamed out of it. It had gotten hard to turn, so that should have been a warning. This cheap plastic replacement seemed inadequate to replace a real brass valve. However, the Plumb shop handheld showerhead diverter valve looked well made of chromed brass. I closed off the unneeded threaded side with a 1/2 inch PVC schedule 40 female cap and teflon tape. Getting it on required a bit of tapering of the first pvc threads to get it to screw on. Otherwise brass or iron caps did not want to thread on the untapered male threads. https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/plumbshop-personal-shower-diverter-chrome-0632926p.html?rq=shower+diverter+valve I had to get the pvc cap elsewhere.

I bought two. They both leak; will not fully stop the water. Strange, b/c I’ve used these before with no problems. Will be returning them.
