OEM specified. Formulated for hi-temp applications, or heavy-duty use (such as towing). Replaces almost any cut gasket by making reliable “formed-in-place” gaskets that resist cracking, shrinking and migrating caused by thermal cycling. Coats pre-cut gaskets to increase reliability. Temperature range -65ºF to 650ºF (-54°C to 343°C) intermittent; resists auto and shop fluids.

A: I’ve used both on differentials without any trouble, but find the red one sets softer, closer to a silicone, so I use black pretty much everywhere now when mating two metal parts, and reserve red for areas where I’m working with seals like valve covers.

Q: WHY IS IT SO DIFFICULT TO GET AN SDS! PERMATEX RED HIGH TEMPERATURE RTV GASKET MAKER YOU TRY AND ENTER THE NAME OR NUMBER AND IT DOESN'T ACCEPT IT AND YOU CAN'T MAKE ADJUSTMENTS TO THE DESCRIPTION BECAUSE IT ERASES THE WHOLE NAME.

A: Hello KT46, thank you for your question. This is difficult to answer without actually seeing the gasket application and the flange configuration. However, in looking at various chainsaw muffler gaskets on the internet, Permatex® Red High Temperature RTV Gasket could likely do the job. Follow the instructions on the Gasket Maker package. The thicker the silicone application, the longer it will take to setup and cure. Thank you again for your question.

Q: Can I use this on the split line between engine and transmission of a 2008 Honda Civic that has a small oil leak?

A: HI Chris, thanks for your question. Permatex Red High-Temperature RTV Gasket Maker is designed to be used in high heat applications, typically there is no gasket on the split line between the engine and transmission. If you are looking to use the product to per se "caulk" the area to stop the leak, unfortunately that will not work as that is not the intended use of the product, it is intended to be used to create a gasket between two surfaces. Caulking the area of the leak will only create a barrier in that area, eventually the leak will most likely occur somewhere else on the housing. To stop the leak would, it would be required that you first repair the source of the leak, which most likely may be the rear main seal. A: Yes, Permatex Hi-Temp Red RTV Gasket Maker can be used in this application. A better option would be 0383722 - Ultra Black Gasket Maker.
