Wonderful Kayak

Bought this for my daughters birthday and she just loves it! It's a smaller entry level kayak which is just what she needed for her novice ability. A really great starter kayak.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Great Beginner Kayak

This is absolutely a great buy!! Love that this is compact to fit in the back of my Nissan rogue and light enough to carry with one hand yet stable in calm rivers or lakes. I used this locally around the river valley and not worried about tipping it at all. I am a female , 5'10, and about 145 lbs and this kayak is very comfortable for me. I didn't bother buying the skirt so don't know anything about that bit. I would say definitely go for it and let the paddling fun begin!

Yes, I recommend this product.

Pelican Sit In 8 ft. Kayak

This Kayak is light enough for anyone to pick up on their own and is short enough to slide inside a hatch back car with the seats folded down... as a result it takes only 5 minutes to get ready and go. I have both the SIT IN and SIT On model. The Sit ON is stable in the water, like a raft, but is a bit slower.... the SIT IN is much quicker to paddle, and easier to navigate if you were in a faster current.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Pelican Pursuit 8ft.

Great little kayak. Very stable. Handles very well in its elements (lakes, ponds, sheltered harbours and other flat water). I paddle 3-4 times a week, and so far, I've used it on 10-15 km trips around Antigonish Harbour. I won't be sea-kayaking in this boat anytime soon, but It is great fun in the meantime.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Awesome Little Kayak

I bought this kayak last week on sale and I fell in love. It's a great beginner kayak and is quite stable. Fits inside my Jeep Liberty! The length and weight is so convenient. Quite basic but awesome for someone who doesn't need all the fancy components. Highly recommended.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Questions

1 - 10 of 19 Questions

Q: I am a 66 year old woman who likes to kayak. Is this kayak suitable for me just to cruise around the harbour on a calm day? Or is it just for kids?

8 Answers
  • A: This kayak is stable on the water and can buck moderate size waves, but it is slower than longer kayaks, and it doesn't track too well (zigzags). It is a good fun recreational kayak suitable for both children and adults.

Q: Does it have sdjustable foot pegs?

  • A: No, this kayak does not have foot pegs, You would have to get a longer kayak to get this feature.

Q: 200 pounds -- I weigh 210 ... The description says there is a weight limit of 200 pounds. So this limit, how dangerous would it be to use this kayak over this weight limit.?

4 Answers
  • A: The higher the weight, the lower the kayak rides in the water, and the easier it is to tip. If you weigh more than 200 lb, I would recommend getting a larger kayak.

Q: Is there a way to lock it up? Has anyone found a way to lock it to something? Does it have a loop for this purpose?

3 Answers
  • A: There is a lock from Canadian Tire - similar to the python cable lock (or I guess you could use that one, but it is more $$), that will fit through the hole in the plastic where the handle is attached. The one we bought had a 3ft cable so we locked the two kayaks together then locked them down with a longer cable lock. Locked it to a tree at Pinery Park with no problems

Q: Isn't this the "Pursuit 80"? According to Pelican, these are products KIF08P209 / KIF08P407 which are the "Pursuit 80 X" and "Pursuit 80" sit-in models. the Sonic is a sit-on line.

3 Answers
  • A: The Pelican Sonic comes in both a sit-on version (red) and a sit-in version (blue). Both retain the same hull design as in previous years, but the paint design and trim varies from year to year, as do the model names. The Sonic 80X is the successor of the Pursuit 80X.

Q: i recently bought this kayak and i noticed some small holes close to the cockpit just curious what they are for any ideas?

3 Answers
  • A: The three small holes to the forward right of the cockpit are to secure a bungee cord. The middle hole held a tension bracket. The last model that had a bungee cord in this location was the Pelican Break SE (5 years ago).

Q: does it come with a paddle?

3 Answers
  • A: No, the kayak is not sold with a paddle. I have tried three different paddles with this kayak, and I would recommend purchasing a good quality one. Features to look for are light weight, curved blade, thin profile from front to back, and a flattened hand grip on the paddle pole. I have such a paddle, and I can buck a strong current across a river.

Q: how does it handle is it easy to sink? can you ride it in moderate rapids? is it easy to handle? does with a router on the back?

3 Answers
  • A: No, it is stable and not easy to sink, provided that you do not exceed the manufacturer's recommend load capacity of 200 lb. I can ride it across a river with a strong current and moderate waves. I don't know what you mean by "router on the back".

Q: How does this kayak track on flatwater.. Feed back from a kayak pro please How does this kayak track on flatwater for person approx. 150lbs.

3 Answers
  • A: I weigh 150 lb, and this kayak doesn't track well in any kind of water. That is the disadvantage of having a short kayak. It is also slower than longer kayaks because it has a high breadth-to-length ratio.
