    The only issue I had was my own fault... I forgot to tighten the auger nut when installing the auger, so it's somewhere in the driveway with the first load of rock salt. It does say not intended for rock salt, but if you're careful with the feed setting, it does a really good job with it. Throws it out nicely, too, so the side guards for spread control are a really handy feature. Will call support for a replacement auger (again, my fault, not an issue with the spreader). So far it's dropped 40kg of salt over two storms and performs exactly the way I hoped it would. Very happy!

    Poor factory assembly.

    1.) The spreader comes partially assembled. The first time we used it, factory assembled frame components lost their fasteners - it fell apart. We expect factory assembled components to be put together properly. 2.) The "features" description says it is recommended for "salt...". While looking for a parts list in the manual, I found the manual says "not recommended for road salt". Which is it? Salt or no Salt. I searched salt spreader to find this devc.

    No, I do not recommend this product.

    Good unit, let down by one poorly designed component

    I bought this recently and have only had the opportunity to use it twice so far. The construction quality seems reasonable overall. I feel like the main structure of the spreader will stand up over time, and the pneumatic wheels are a nice touch which grips well on ice. It has good capacity and when it's working it generally spreads evenly. The biggest issue is with the spiked auger. It's made of plastic and it's clearly not durable. The one in the unit I received had a cracked (almost off) tooth already in the packaging, and another which failed on the first use. It still seems to work for now, even with two of the teeth missing, but it doesn't bode well for long-term quality and usability. For this price, the unit should either come with a second auger for when the first one breaks, or the auger should be made of metal to avoid breaking in the first place. The fact one tooth was already falling off when I took the unit out of the package shows this isn't a reliable construction method.

    Q: Will driveway sand work in this spreader?

    • A: Best if it is dry. Wet / damp sand may not flow down the drum into the spreader. You will h ave to experiment with the opening control.
