Replace for fireplace

Bought it to replace the switch on electric fireplace. Worked for about two weeks, now the toggle doesn't work to shut it off.

Q: Is this switch backlit? Meaning is it still dimly lit when in "Off" position?

A: no....it's a "power light". Just like any other like that comes on to indicate that the switch has turned on the power. Like the lighted switch on a power. The light goes on if you switch the power on. May I suggest glow in the dark pen or glow in the dark stick?

Q: How many amps does the illumination use?

A: The illumination is a Neon light biased with a 47K resistor.. It draws a couple milliamps. LEDs are not used in these switches as they draw much more current and would require a much bigger dropping resistor which would melt the plastic. Neons last about a decade then they will start to flicker and need replacing.
