Expensive and will stop working

At the regular price you can get professional grade one.
I almost didn't use it and it is starting to turn off by itself after 5 years - even with fresh battery

I used it initially to test resistance on a heater motor then voltage at the plug in. Works fine. These less expensive ohm meters are fine for most jobs at home. Mechanics would likely prefer more sophisticated devices. I did not care for the bulky leads that only had a very short probe that really didn’t protrude far enough out of the housing. It makes it difficult to test terminals in deeper recesses.

A: Just purchased one at Canadian Tire 52-0037-0 if it is not available, it is a k type thermocouple that hooks to a straight through adapter that plugs into the meter

A: 9 volt battery was used on the older version of 052-0052-2 as per google search. Newer version of 052-0052-2 uses 2xAAA batteries as clearly stated on packaging.

Q: How fast does continuity tone respond? Some of my more expensive meters take what seems like forever to generate a tone during continuity testing. You can short the leads together and count to 3 or 4 before the tone appears. Nearly useless. How's this one?

A: thankfully it responds immediately. and, i know what you mean. i have some meters that require undisturbed contact for almost 3 seconds before it responds. aggravating, to say the least

Q: How does temperature probe connect? The temp probe says on the package it is for this meter but it comes with two flat blades that can't plug into the meter anywhere I can see. Is there an adapter available?

Q: Does this meter give true RMS readings?

A: The latest one in Blue color claims to show True RMS. Older models with same SKU do not, I have both. RMS means Root Mean Square and it is the integration over each AC cycle to show the energy value of the voltage or current. Most meters can show only an average and this is fine unless you measure the current of a dimmer or pulse width controlled load which is not a sinusoid. Then it is an error to show the average. Look up "crest factor" for more help on this. AC Power factor also plays a role in energy and power measurement and this meter could not help in this matter.

A: You have to take the screws out of the back and separate the complete meter in 2 halves.

Q: Can this tester be used to measure car battery voltage and current?

A: You can use this to measure the voltages of most batteries, including a car battery. Measuring current, however, is completely different and you really should know what you are doing before attempting any measurement. A car battery can deliver hundreds of amps and will blow the fuse in the meter instantly; alternately, measuring house AC current could electrocute you if you touch the leads. This is too short a space to explain everything. My advice is get some education.

A: When you search the Canadian Tire site for 52-0037 you get no results. When you search 052-0037-0 the product comes up.

Q: How does the LED backlight turn on? I bought the most recent version 052-0052-5. The LED came on at one point, but I don't know how it was done or how to repeat.
