  • A: I used it to address scratches on the fireplace itself. It’s safe for very high temperature.

Q: Can this paint be used to re-do a range hood (exhaust above kitchen stove)?

  • A: I would recommend to use the regular Tremclad as the high heat would need to be heated at a temperature of 400 degrees Fahrenheit for an hour in order to cure.

Q: Can this product be used on a pierced tin lantern with candle? Does the product need to be heat cured? Have 2 styles of tin lantern with pierced decoration; candle & electrified. Would like to paint all matt black both interior & exterior.

  • A: I think you should be fine. I use it for the surface of my wood stove and I use the stove to heat my home all winter. It will leave an odour for awhile so maybe air them out side to dry.

Q: Do I need to clear coat it to avoid scratching? Is it tough enough to hold up against cleaning without scratching?

1 Answer
  • A: Hi, Great question! No need to clear coat over our Tremclad High Heat. It is strong enough to hold up against cleaning. However, it is best to avoid using strong abrasive pads to avoid deep scratches. If you decide to still a apply a clear coat, it has to be able to withstand high heat as well. Unfortunately, we do not manufacture one for this purpose. Make sure to test on a small area first.

Q: Do you need a primer with this? (for outdoor cast iron chiminea)

1 Answer
  • A: Hi, Great question! Our Tremclad High Heat is to be applied directly to the metal surface with no primer. We recommend cleaning the chimenea well and once dry, wire brush to abrade the surface and remove the sanding dust before painting.

Q: Can this paint be used on the interior of a microwave?

1 Answer
  • A: Hi clubyj, Our Tremclad High Heat is for exterior surfaces only and is not recommended for the interior of a microwave. The coating will not be able to withstand the amount of heat it will be exposed to inside of a microwave and will crack and peel off.
