It seemed hard to squeeze from the tube, and seemed to be dried up.

Thank you for taking the time to review the Stainable Wood Filler. Minwax Stainable Wood Filler accepts stain, though sometimes at a different rate from the surrounding wood. This is often due to the natural porosity, age, or moisture content of the wood. Please try these suggestions, based on lab tests for the Minwax Stainable Wood Filler, to get a closer match to the surrounding stained wood: 1.) Lightly sand filler before applying stain (no finer than 100 grit.) Over-sanding or using a finer grit tends to close pores. 2.) Stain as soon a possible after filler hardens, following label instructions for the stain. The longer the filler cures, the harder and less porous it will be, and therefore the less stain it will absorb. 3.) If the first coat of stain is not as dark as desired, in a sample area use a piece of 100-grit sandpaper and dampen the sandpaper with the stain you are using. Use this paper to wet sand the Stainable Wood Filler. I would recommend rubbing out the area with light pressure in the same direction as the wood grain. Increase your rubbing/sanding pressure as needed. You should notice that the combination of the stain and sandpaper is blending the Wood Filler compound with the surrounding stained wood. Here again, practice your technique in a test area or inconspicuous spot. 4.) If the spots are so small that the wet sanding technique is not practical (finish nail holes), you may have to use a topical stain, such as Minwax Gel Stain, in a matching color, and using an artist's brush, paint the stain lightly on the spots. Rather than wiping, allow the stain to dry on the surface, which may take up to 48 hours. If desired, to achieve more of a wood grain effect, 5 minutes after applying the stain, use a dry brush to drag through the stain in the direction of the wood grain, then let dry. These techniques will help blend the filler with the surrounding stained wood. If they are not successful, the only remaining option is to remove the filler completely and sand the entire surface for restaining. After re-staining and sealing the wood with the clear coat of your choice, apply Minwax Wood Putty in a matching color. VERY POOR stainability

I thought Minwax guaranteeing satisfaction meant the product would meet the description.  Wrong. Every spot I used this stainable wood filler stands out like a sore thumb. I was using Red Mahogany stain and on the wood filler spots it looks like I was using Golden Oak.  It's about 10 shaded lighter on the wood filler. Resoundingly disappointed in the product.  I won't be using it again.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Not easy to use

Very difficult to get product out of the tube to use. It was thick and near impossible to get enough product out for the area. Ended up throwing it away as it was not useful for filling the ding in the wood flooring and used a different filler and the crayon markers to adjust the colour.

Wood stain

The wood filler worked as advertised except for one very important aspect, it did not accept stain. Easy to sand and apply giving a smooth finish.
