Kidde Smart Battery-Powered Water Leak Detector w/ App Capability

The setup of the app is a pain in the butt. There are lots of things you need to do that the instructions don't explicitly call out like 2.4 GHz WIFI, WIFI password can't be long, no special characters, etc. Lots of trial an error and ChatGPT, but I did get it connected and tested it with water and it did alert audibly and on my phone. Didn't test the freeze feature.

Bought this today. The email verification process to set up the account won't recognise the password so won't allow set up of account. to verify the error was not on my part, I re-did the process and tried different emails and diligently wrote down the password then copied pasted each time. Despite that it continued to claim "invalid password". If this simple part of the process fails so easily it does not bode well for the rest of the software.

For those of you who gave this product a fail... YOU ARE WORNG. This is an excellent product, easy to setup, and easy to monitor via app. I RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT.

I purchased this leak detector five months ago, yesterday I got a notification that it lost connection to the internet. After following the how to reconnect instructions it wouldn’t reconnect, I removed and reinserted the batteries still no go, added fresh brand new batteries still no luck. Called tech support and they had me redo the same instructions (the very thing I told them I had been doing for the last half hour. After attempting the reconnect procedure while on the phone they finally reconfirmed that the device is faulty. If you still plan on purchasing this KEEP THE RECEIPT, like I should have done.

I bought two of these. It took dozens of attempts to eventually get them set up and registered on the household wifi router. The router has good wifi signal strength. The router is working flawlessly with every other wifi device in the household. In frustration I tried placing the sensors in the same room with the router. It made no difference. The AA batteries in the sensors are new and test OK. I tried replacing them anyway. No difference. The Kidde app is extremely flaky, hanging up at many different points in the process: not finding bluetooth; not finding the wifi router; randomly asking for the wifi password again; locking the screen so nothing can be clicked except the back button; and finally, spending several minutes on the last Registering Device screen, then saying there is an unknown error, please reset and try again. Once set up (after repeated attempts), the water detectors would always drop offline within a day. Sometimes they self-reset and sometimes not. There is zero FAQ or troubleshooting support for this issue on the Kidde website, so I wrote a detailed description of the situation and tried to send it through their Contact form. Their I Am Human test for submitting the form defeated me - for the first time ever in decades of internet use. No matter what I clicked, it would just put up another set of photographs in the squares. It felt like an April Fools joke sprung a few days late. Surely a contact form that requires you to provide your full name, street address, email address, and phone number, can be verified more easily??? I am an electronics technician by trade. I feel a little bad about leaving such a negative review, but I did try to write to the manufacturer before giving up and calling this expensive experiment a total failure. I prefer dealing with complex technical issues like this in writing rather than by phone, in order to have something to refer back to later in the event that a similar situation happens again. The tech support phone line is not a 24/7 operation, but water leaks can happen at any time of the day or night - and on Sundays, too. My assessment is this product is not reliable or supported well enough to be used for its intended purpose as an online sensor. If there is ever a water leak in the house, I hope someone is home to hear the alarms.
