I used this product as I received a small scratch on the bottom, front, left-hand corner of my car My car is a 2011, but in immaculate condition. I was amazed at how well this product worked. My husband no longer has to listen to me complain about a scratch on my car!

Q: I have. 2020 Toyota Camry SE. Black. I backed into the drivers door of a little white car. I have white scuff marks and some scratches on the rear end of my car. No dents.  Will this remove the white scuffs without damaging the finish of my paint?

  • A: We would recommend starting with our Scratch Repair and Renew (https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/turtle-wax-scratch-repair-renew-207-ml-0390548p.html#srp).

Q: The paint was scratched on our metal door during a furniture delivery.  Will rubbing compound help fix it?  We no longer have the paint used on the door, so can’t do a touch-up. Thanks for any help.

Q: Is this product safe for use on powder coated parts and will it remove small spots that have faded?

1 Answer
  • A: Powdered coatings is a strong coating. But the durability can vary based on technique and the materials used. It is never recommended to use aggressive polishing agents on any powder coating because it can remove the desired finish. We do NOT recommend using Heavy Duty Rubbing Compound on powder coated surfaces.

Q: Can I use this over touch-up paint to smooth out the finish?

1 Answer
  • A: Touch up paint is made of acrylic urethane and when fully cured becomes a very hard and durable resin. If over applied, it can harden into a "bump" or elevated texture. Heavy Duty Rubbing Compound can work but note that it can require a bit of polishing time. To speed up the process, tape off the affected area and use a 2500 to 2000 grit wet sand on the touch up paint. When the area is about level or smooth, follow up with Heavy Duty Rubbing Compound for a final polish.

Q: Is it safe to use this compound with a power polisher?

1 Answer
  • A: The Heavy Duty Rubbing Compound is a very aggressive cutting compound designed to be used by hand. Depending on the user’s experience level, type of polisher used and type of cutting pad, it can be safely used with “Power Polisher”. However, because of its aggressive cut, there is very little room for error especially when used with a high torque polisher and aggressive cutting pad.

Q: Will it remove pin head sized rust spots in paint surfaces?

1 Answer
  • A: Rust only forms on bare metal in the presence of moisture and never on painted surfaces. Either rocks chipped away at the paint and exposing the bare metal or the vehicle was parked under a bridge where water rust spots dripped on the vehicle. Either way, Rubbing Compound will remove it but if it is truly rust on bare metal, then the customer will need to seal it with touch up paint or Scratch Pen. Or the rust will return and it will become larger.

Q: Can this blend new and old paint lines? Can this product be used to blend in new painted surfaces with older paint? (I.E. I fixed a rust spot, painted a small section with new paint, but there is a noticeable line/ difference between old and new paint.)

1 Answer
  • A: It is very difficult to do a “spot repair” without properly painting or blending the paint over an entire panel. Professionals call this ‘”feathering”. New paint never exactly matches old paint, making spot touch ups difficult. Using a rubbing compound will not help blend in the repair. We would recommend using a 1000 grit to 2000 grit wet sandpaper first followed by using ( 039-1021 ) Turtle Wax White Polishing Compound and apply it by hand. It will help remove overspray of the touch up paint and help produce a more uniform gloss on the old and new paint. This compound is less aggressive than the red rubbing compound and may do a better job without dulling the surrounding paint. If desired results are not achieved, than a professional repair is required.

Q: Can this clean white marks in black plastic section of vans? White marks remains on the black colored plastic outer/lower portion of my van (below the doors). This may be remnants of soap or cleaning chemicals. Can this wax thoroughly clean this white marks? Thank you.

1 Answer
  • A: Here is a response from the manufacturer: It is really hard to know for sure without seeing the marks or knowing exactly what caused the marks. The Turtle Wax Rubbing Compound #39-1020 is a heavy duty paste that cleans dull and oxidized finishes. It will help remove scratches and blemishes and restores faded finishes. This product can be used to clean the remnants of soap and most cleaning chemicals. It is hard to know 100% for sure, without actually seeing the surface needing to be cleaned. I would recommend the Turtle Wax Premium Rubbing Compounds because they are much easier to use and work a little better. The item code for the Premium Compound is Product #39-2726-2. The Premium Compound is formulated with an aggressive blend of nanotechnology polishing agents to restore your cars finish. Removes scratches, heavy swirl marks, surface blemishes and 1500 grit sanding scratches. I recommend using this product with a cotton cloth, microfiber cloth, or foam pad. It is safe for all finishes.
