    Great Chainsaw Sharpening Kit

This basic sharpening kit did an excellent job. It was easy to use, and I was cutting again in less than 10 minutes.

    They work

The files work like they should to sharpen the chain. One of the wood handles broke when I put it on the file. The hole in the handle for the file is way to small and the wood is not strong enough.

Quality sharpening and maintaining set of files

Well made high quality files with nice wooden handles. This is set that should be in your chainsaw tool box everytime you set out into the woods with your chainsaw. I keep several sets. One in the workshop and one with me in the truck.

    1 - 4 of 4 Questions

Q: Does this sharpening kit come in a 5/32" file size version? Does this sharpening kit come in a 5/32" file size version? I bought a Poulan electric chainsaw at Canadian Tire, and I understand that it uses a chain that requires a 5/32" file.

Q: will this work with poulan woodshark 14inch

    1 Answer
    • A: No, the file referenced is a 7/32”. The chain on the Poulan 3314 Woodshark 14” is an S52, which uses a 5/32” file. The CA Tire number for that kit is 54-5630.

Q: Would a 7/32" chain saw sharpening kit work for an 18 inch power saw chain? I purchased a chain saw from Canadian Tire and I am looking for a sharpening kit to go along with it for a Christmas gift and I noticed that you have the 7/32" but I just want to make sure that it would work for an 18 inch chain saw. Thank You.

    • A: Without knowing the brand and model of the saw we can’t give a definitive answer. However, most chainsaws on the market use low profile 3/8” and 0.325” pitch chains which would require a 5/32” file. A 7/32” file is used for sharpening full 3/8” pitch chain. You can also call the Oregon toll-free customer care line at 1-800-667-3409 once you have located your brand and model number for further information

Q: How to use? Ok, the instructions just don't do it for me. How does this file jig work to sharpen a chain. Does this sharpen while the chain is on the bar and how does the file frame mount or work to shapen the chain? Silly question I'm sure.

    1 Answer
    • A: With a good pair of leather gloves on, set your saw down on a bench and hold the chain with one hand and run the file through each tooth using the lines on the file to keep it lines up with the bar at the right angle. Once all teeth in one direction are done, turn the saw around and file the other teeth. Once that is done, put the depth gauge over each raker using the slot on the gauge and use the flat file to file them down. Always file the rakers AFTER the teeth have been sharpened. Hope this helps
