Great upgrade!!!

I was looking for a replacement battery for the failing OEM battery that was in my Nissan 370 Z nismo. I couldn’t find anything with a higher cranking power in the stock OEM size so I did a little measuring and upgraded to this optima red top 34R battery. It has about 300 more cranking apps than the stock OEM Nissan batteries or any other battery I could find that would fit my car, I am very pleased with it. I haven’t had any issues with it. I’ve had it for three months. The engine bay does get pretty warm, but the batteries kind of hidden behind a so maybe that’s why it doesn’t get affected by the heat so bad, but besides all that , the car starts incredibly quick and strong now and this battery has no problem running all the lighting accessories and the aftermarket stereo and it’s only being charged by the stock alternator system. I am very pleased with this battery. I know there’s a lot of negative reviews about optima batteries now saying their quality is low, but this is now the third red top that I’ve used in my vehicles and I’ve never had any issues. And the best part of it all is Canadian tire is blowing the optima red top 34R out on clearance. Buy one fast. I picked up two for the price of one regular priced one. Definitely worth it

I went to the store in North Bay and they sold me this battery unknown to me it was manufactured in 2002 and has been sitting on the shelf since. When I tested it was only half charged and health was at 57%. All I could get when I returned it was a lesser priced battery I lost around $75.00 never go to Canadian tire again!! Paul

No, I do not recommend this product.

Q: Given my MOTOMASTER battery lasted for 4 years + 3 months before needing replacement, is it worth to purchase this battery with a 3x the price, same 3 year warranty, and less CCA then my size 24 Motomaster?

3 Answers
  • A: I am not convinced. 3x the price for no practical benefit compared to a lead acid battery. Advantages like low self-discharge rate, charging time and temperature tolerance don't make any practical difference in the car usage scenario. I use the car frequently enough for low discharge to be of any use, I don't charge it at home to notice the shorter charge time and my car fully charges my battery when i drive it, I live in Toronto and temperature extremes never made a difference on my battery usage. And finally both batteries come with 3 year warranty, so difference in construction does not really matter. If this battery is superior to the regular lead acid one, why the warranty is not longer? So, I'd say save the money, and stick with a lead acid battery. I can buy 3 such batteries for the price of one optima. But wait, the lead acid one is not RED TOP, darn!!!....lol

Q: I have a 2017 Ford Explorer, 3.5 L engine. These are extremely common for emergency vehicles. On the optima site, the battery they recommend is the RED TOP 25. Is this the same as your OPTIMA REDTOP® 9002-091 75/25 AGM 720 CCA? If not, can it be ordered?

1 Answer
  • A: Hello, the Redtop 25 is not the same as our dual terminal 75/25 Redtop. The Redtop 25 can only be used in models with intelligent access and top hold-downs. Based on your vehicle information, the OEM battery used was a group 65 or 59 depending on the model. Unfortunately, the Redtop 25 is not available for order. However, you can consider the MotoMaster Eliminator AGM Group 65 Battery (010-6520) or MotoMaster Eliminator Extreme AGM Group Size 65 (010-6550) if you are looking for an AGM option.

Q: The way my current battery is setup, positive is on the left (versus with this battery where it's on the right). The wires look pretty tight/firm so I don't think it can be stretched to the other side. Would this be a problem?

1 Answer
  • A: It is difficult to provide a response without knowing the details of your application (i.e. year/make/model/engine). Note, it is possible that for your application this battery needs to be installed turned around, which would put the positive on the right. We recommend using the Car Parts Selector to confirm fitment for your vehicle, as well as any fitment notes. Or you can visit OPTIMA's website and use the catalogue look-up there.

Q: Multiple versions of this battery are listed, and I am asked to choose one. How do I know which one to pick if the only website info that changed is the price?, and the mfr part number isnt listed.

1 Answer
