does not grip filter. the one time I used it, I had to wrap the filter with duct tape to increase its diameter. finally got it off.

Bought it for one particular oil change but will use it as my go-to for filter removal. Remember, for removal purposes only. I don't know how it would perform on a really overtightened oil filter. Mine was not that tight and it got it going right away.
