My truck was sitting for a year so I needed a new battery and this one fired it right up so I’m really happy. I don’t have a picture of me using it but trust me it’s in my vehicle and working well.

Poor quality of Motomaster car battery

I bought the Motomaster car battery three years ago. Since then I have returned the defective battery once every year. This is the 3rd new battery I have got from Canadian Tire. Fortunately Canadian Tire offers 5 years warranty for the Motomaster car battery. Before I also bought the Motomaster car battery from Candian Tire and it had lasted for almost six years before it died. I don't know why now a day the Motomaster car battery just lasts about a year only. I feel very unhappy for this!

Thank you for your feedback. Rest assured that MotoMaster Batteries are manufactured by one of the world's premier lead-acid battery manufacturers and that MotoMaster Batteries go through numerous quality control checks. Replacing your car battery every year is not normal. If your battery is dying annually, it means an underlying mechanical or habit-based issue is prematurely killing the battery cells. The most common reasons for yearly battery failure include: 1. Severe Parasitic Drain - Your car's computer modules normally go to "sleep" after the ignition is turned off, leaving a negligible power draw. A parasitic drain happens when a component stays awake, continuously pulling power overnight. 2. Improperly Wired Aftermarket Accessories - Accessories like dashcams, remote starters, subwoofers, or GPS trackers are frequently wired incorrectly. 3. Alternator and Charging System Faults - Your alternator is responsible for keeping your battery charged while driving. A malfunction alternator or charging system can lead to under or overcharging of the battery. 4. Frequent Short Trips - Your starter motor requires a massive burst of energy to turn over your engine. It takes roughly 15 to 30 minutes of continuous driving for the alternator to give that power back to the battery. If you only drive 5 to 10 minutes at a time, the battery lives in a state of chronic undercharge, leading to rapid "sulfation" which kills the battery. 5. Improper Installation Procedure - The vehicle type was not mentioned but, given the part number of the battery, it is one that is commonly used in German-made vehicles. Many of those require a new battery installation to be registered to the vehicle computer system sot he charging system can reconfigure itself for a new battery. Is this applicable to your vehicle and, if so, have you done the registration process? We hope this information helps you uncover what might be causing such frequent battery replacement in your case.

Q: Does CT have a memory retainer to store the vehicle memory for the 2016 mdx while changing the battery?

4 Answers
  • A: If you don't have access to a scan tool or a memory saver, leaving the car sit for a minimum of 24 hours without any battery attached will also reset the car's computer memory of the previous battery (and any pre-existing codes it already has), allowing it to register the new battery without creating new codes. After having done this myself, the only thing I had to do was to set the clock and whatever radio settings I had. Note: Even though any pre-existing codes will be reset, unless you fix whatever caused them to begin with, they will return once you start driving the car again.

Q: Is a higher CCA rating safe to use? I'm considering this battery for my Audi A4 2008 2.0T. The original battery has cold cranking amps CCA of 640, whereas this battery is much higher. Is this battery still recommended (any danger of damaging the alternator)? Thanks

  • A: You can never have to many CCA (Cold Cranking Amp), especially when it's -40C. The battery is 12 Volts, and if ot fits that all that matters, a battery having more CCA just means it has more current in the battery to help turn over the engine. For over 40 years I have always bought the largest CCA battery that I can fit in the car, my old Taurus had a larger battery but way less CCA,, so I bought a size 34 battery with 1000 CCA instead of the old 520 CCA. That car was terrible below -25C, but once I got the new battery it always started great, even below-40C. This is one time the say "Go big, or go home" is really true.

Q: Does the battery come with the height adaptor because I have an is300 and it uses a Group 24 battery but Canadian tire says the group 34 one is okay to use.

3 Answers
  • A: No it does not.  You really should take measurements of your old battery, because the group 34 while an inch shorter is also a bit wider, and does not come with the same cca.  Definitely take measurements.

Q: The battery i bought comes with a 4 year free replacement and road side assistance. Does it need to be installed at a Canadian tire auto shop for the warranty to be valid

2 Answers
  • A: Not that I'm aware of. I've bought several batteries from CTC over the years and have never been told that they must be installed by a CTC auto shop. I've always installed them myself. I did have one battery that had to be replaced and while this was long ago, I had no problem obtaining the replacement. You might want to put any relevant paperwork and receipt someplace where you can find it if you ever need it.
