It works but not entirely perfect

The plug locked onto the port of my car making it impossible to remove. Look carefully on the side wall(the shorter side) of the plug, there is a cutout and that would lock onto the port side. The only way to remove the plug is to use a screw driver with a thin and narrow blade. The plug is high profile, you cannot leave it on ! The package has a warning against using battery charger higher than 2A or you will risk damage to your vehicle but the fuse used on this cable is a 10A, that does not make any sense to me. Apart from what I mentioned, the cable works as intended.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Great quality and works but be aware of the polarity of the plug.

Picked this up to trickle charge my car battery while parked. I have a couple of standard 12v trickle charge solar panels that have an SAE connector but the light turned off as soon as I plugged it into this connector. Did a quick check on the solar panel with a multimeter and realized the polarity was opposite from the connector (polarity is marked on the connector). Since I had several panels, I cut one and reversed the wires, which did the trick. This may not be required if your panel has matching polarity but that might be the reason if it doesn't work right away.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: Can you please provide detailed instruction on how to use this OBDII connector with the MotoMaster Eliminator Precision Series 7/1A Battery Charger (011-1969)'s Power Supply mode to maintain memory?

    2 Answers
    • A: 1. Connect the OBDII Connector to the battery charger (at SAE quick connect). 2. Plug the OBDII Connector into your vehicle's OBDII port. 3. Plug the battery charger cord into AC power. 4. Select the Power Supply mode (requires 3-second press of Mode button). 5. Disconnect, replace and reconnect your car battery. 6. Disconnect the OBDII Connector and battery charger by following steps 1-3 in reverse order.

Q: Can I use this connector to hook up a battery and function as a memory saver when replacing the car battery?

    • A: I am not an expert in this area. In theory, I'd say yes, but I wouldn't recommend it because of all the behavior the charger (or voltage source) might have when replacing the battery.

Q: This OBDII connector is stuck to my OBDII port on my Toyota and I cannot remove it. Any tips? It's in the way every time I get into my vehicle, and I don't want to break-off my OBD port! Thanks

    • A: Try to push the OBD II connector back into to port and remove with even force along either at top and bottom or laterally. Good luck. I have a toyota as well, no issues in its use.

Q: Can this be used to charge batteries or just to maintain them?

    1 Answer
    • A: The OBDII port is connected to vehicle electronics and computers. Pushing moderate currents through the OBDII port could potentially damage sensitive components. Every vehicle is different so the opportunity and risk varies from vehicle to vehicle. Keeping to a low current (under 2 amps) avoids potential damage. That said, certainly if you used a 1A charger through your OBDII port, your battery would "charge" - it will just take longer than if you used a 5 or 10A charger connected directly to your battery.

Q: Can i connect this to the MotoMaster Eliminator 750A Lithium-Ion Booster Pack and Power Bank to maintain my memory settings while I swap out the battery

    1 Answer
    • A: No, you cannot connect this to the MotoMaster Eliminator 750A Lithium-ion Booster Pack and Power Bank. You can use this product with MotoMaster Eliminator Precision Series 7/1A Battery Charger (011-1969)'s Power Supply mode to maintain memory. Alternatively, you could consider 011-3006 MotoMaster OBDII Connector in conjunction with any booster pack with a 12V (cigarette lighter) outlet or with 037-4563 Bluehive 12V Extension to borrow power from another car or with Bluehive 12V Socket with Clamps to borrow power from another battery.
