Battery exchange

The first battery that was purchased week prior was the wrong battery. I needed a deep cell battery for my dump trailer. The Employee that helped me today and the senior Employee both agreed that I was given the wrong battery. I was offered an upgrade to a longer lasting charge battery and paid the difference and I was on my way.

Solar banking them, mixed results

First one I bought died within six months without solar misuse, but they replaced - next couple I bought worked better it seems.

Thank you for your feedback. Please note, this is a marine starting battery, designed for engine cranking. It is not a deep cycle battery, such as you would require for a solar bank.

Nautilus Batteries are a good price and great performance.

Starts the boat like it should, and does the job. I always like the Nautilus batteries, and have one for my troll motor as well. I have had no issues either, even when they forgot to pull my troll motor battery out last year over winter and I was angry, it still worked good.

Q: Is this battery good enough for an electric motor on a 14 foot aluminum boat

  • A: I don't know how long it will last but it should be. I got 1 of these to start my 350 cubic inch gas boat motor & 1 for back up in case the other one dies while I'm out on the water.

Q: What kind of marine battery do I need for a 140hp evinrude outboard motor?

2 Answers
  • A: If you have the owner's manual of the motor then look in it, it will give you exactly which battery you should be using. But again it depends on what you plan to do, if it is only to start your motor, then a basic battery will do that just fine. I have a complete different opinion about the AGM batteries, although they are sealed etc... they are tricky to charge and are easier to damage and way more expensive. I do not recommend these at all presently. A deep cycle battery is always good to have on a boat, since most of the time you end up powering other stuff that is 12Vdc also and you use it when the engine is not running. They can be discharged more than conventional batteries and also will last longer. Have fun!

Q: Would this be suitable to run an electric trolling motor or should I be looking at a bigger battery?

2 Answers
  • A: This is NOT a battery you would wish to use with a trolling motor, RV, power inverter, etc. This is a starting battery, and for those types of applications where the battery would be charged and then partially discharged (50% or more), you would need a Deep Cycle battery. The difference is that a starting battery is not meant to be discharged and re-charged very often, as it will significantly reduce the life of the battery. Some starting batteries can handle no more than 10-15 deep cycles before they are essentially useless. Do yourself a favor and spend the extra $30 and get a mid-range deep cycle battery, and you will not regret it. This battery should be used for starting motors only, or in applications where it will not stand more of a drop than 5% full charge.
