Product is a good fit. Performance is unknown. Unhelpful staff.

Excellent fit in RV. Time will tell how they perform. On-line ordering worked well. Pickup was a disaster, but that was a local store problem. I wasn’t given a store receipt which should have been attached to 1 of 2 batteries, so I figured my computer receipt was good. Not the case. Two days after getting home with product, I get an email stating that I only have one day left to pick them up. Back to the store I go. Two of the pleasant staff tried to help, but they didn’t know what to do. After a long wait, supervisor #2 shows up to help, which she did, but she was very snarky. All they needed to do was to close out the order. That was an hour of my life I’ll never get back, not to mention wasting my fuel to drive there. Please provide your staff with better technical training, and give the supervisor some attitude adjustment.

    Great batteries.

I have had 4 of these for 1 1/2 months now and they have extended how we use them with my RV solar package. They charge quicker and allow us to use more appliances with out needing the generator backup system. So far they have been a great buy.

I replaced my wet cell batteries in my motorhome with these batteries. Couldn’t be happier.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

    Van Solar

I have 2 of these wired up for 12V, hooked up to a Renogy 100w panel and a 20A MPPT solar controller to keep them topped up. I use them to power my diesel heater (fuel pump / fan) and a 1200w Victron inverter in my van. So far - so good, provides all the power I need for a few days off-grid, only draw back is the cost and extra weight in the van, but I figure these should last quite a while.

Q: Time to recharge two Nautilus 6V batteries, from full discharge, using two 190 watt solar panels? (in the wintertime, with cold temps and 50% sunlight) Do I assume that two of these batteries would double my amp hours from 190 to 380? Thank you!!

    2 Answers
    • A: To further elaborate on this matter, if you were to use a bank of 4 of these 6 volt batteries with 12 solar panels each rated at 250 watts, what would be optimal configuration (series and parallel setup, or combination for a capacity approaching 400 amp hours). The controller and inverter can handle up to 3 mega watts. Also how would response change with 8 of these 6 volt batteries with 12 solar panels each rated at 250 watts. May create quite a system.

Q: The earlier answer regarding charge specification voltages stated that for temperatures above 25C, deduct 0.0003 volts per cell per degree C, and for voltages below 25C to add 0.003 volts per cell. Ten times the compensation for temperature above 25C??

    2 Answers
    • A: Thanks for the clarification. The distinction is important. Using one tenth the compensation for higher temperatures could result in serious battery damage.

Q: for charging purposes what should be the settings in volts for absorption charge, float and equalization

    1 Answer
    • A: Absorption charge is 2.40 to 2.43 V/cell (7.2 to 7.29V). Float at 2.25 V/cell (6.75V). To compensate for temperature not at 25°C... subtract 0.003 V/cell for each 1 degree above 25°C; add 0.003 V/cell for each 1 degree below 25° C. Equalization charging is not recommended (since this is a sealed VRLA battery).

Q: I was hoping to install two of these as house batteries in a class 3 motor home powered by a 2012 f350. Will the alternator in the f350 charge the batteries at a higher amperage than the recommended 60 amps. Also will that be hard on the alternator?

    1 Answer
    • A: If you're asking this question, we assume your vehicle is set up such that your alternator is connected to both the starter battery and your house batteries (and likely/hopefully uses a battery isolator to control which battery is being charged as well as to prevent accidentally running down your starter battery when using house power). Your vehicle's alternator will not damage these batteries. Notwithstanding the alternator's amp rating, the batteries will only "call for" the amount of amps they can accept - more when very discharged and less as the batteries become more charged. Put it this way, your alternator doesn't damage your starter battery which is much smaller capacity than these GC2 batteries. If your system is designed properly, it will not be hard on your alternator.

Q: If I connect two in series to give 12 volts; does the amp-hour rating of 190 stay the same, or does it double? (I think it stays the same because the voltage is doubled, but I want to make sure).

    1 Answer
    • A: Correct, still 190 Ah. If you need more capacity/runtime, you could connect a pair of these batteries in series, connect another pair in series, then connect the two pairs in parallel - this is called a series parallel connection. This would give you a 12-volt, 380 Ah bank. (In fact, you could keep connecting pairs to increase your Ah capacity as desired.)

Q: Does the 6V Nautilus AGM require ventilation? Can 2 of them be connected in series?

    1 Answer
    • A: Never install any type of battery in a completely sealed container. Although most of the normal gasses produced by an AGM battery will be recombined and not escape, oxygen and hydrogen will escape from the battery in an overcharge condition (as is typical of any type of battery). These potentially explosive gasses must be allowed to vent to the atmosphere and must never be trapped in a sealed battery box or tightly enclosed space. Yes, two 6V Nautilus AGM batteries can be connected in series.

Q: What is the CCA on this battery?

    1 Answer
    • A: While this battery is perfectly suitable for and capable of being used in a "starting" application, it is typically used in a cycling application. It would be rated at 680 CCA.

Q: At what point will these batteries freeze?

    1 Answer
    • A: If fully charged, the electrolyte will not freeze until almost -70C. At at 50% state of charge, electrolyte will freeze at around -25C. If fully discharged (11.8V or less), a battery's electrolyte is basically water and can freeze at just below 0C. The moral of the story... keep your batteries fully charged in winter and they will not freeze.

Q: If these are a sealed battery, can they be mounted in any position?

    1 Answer
    • A: It is sealed and spill-proof and can be installed in any position. However, upside down is not recommended.

Q: Hi, just wondering why there is only a limited selection of 6v low Amp batteries? 190A is very low, there are 235a up to 350a on the market. Can I order higher ones or are we just limited to this very little variety? Thanks Jeff

    1 Answer
    • A: Thanks for your question. We carry in our assortment what would be considered, by far, the most popular types/sizes of 6-volt batteries. The ones you mention are generally for specialized applications. We do have access to an entire world of lead-acid batteries through our manufacturer(s). If you provide the Auto Parts department of your local CT store with the specs you are looking for (physical dimensions, capacity, post style/location), they can check with the manufacturer for pricing and availability.
