Was very happy initially with this battery charger. Worked well in the cold over the winter. Unfortunately not working today in the summer!

    Solid unit

Not fancy but does the job. There are some smart chargers out there, laden with gimmicks, that outsmart themselves. This one charges batteries. Period.

Falls way short of the old model

I bought this to replace a 20 year old Canadian tire 2/10 amp charger with "boost" that had its time. This charger isn't even close to the capability of the old charger. I use it in cold weather to get low batteries to crank, the old one would pin the amp gauge at 20 then come down, it would charge a dead battery to crank in 30 - 45 min. This one, IF its protection doesn't kick it in and out, reads 4 amps, it never goes higher. - so takes overnight. It it a 4 amp charger not a 10. The AGM feature is a gimmick. The point for me having a 10 amp charger is to charge more quickly and get you going, It simply can not do that. Sorry, I would NOT recommend this charger unless you are maintaining a battery - then, just buy a battery tender.

Buy a better model this one not good

Buy a better model this one not good. Bought this model two weeks ago during the cold blitz. No way to tell when fully charged, needle keeps bouncing and light flashing. Customer service phoneline could not figure it out either. It did successfully charge. Same problem again this week. After running for 2 days, needle still bounces and light flashes. Again turns out car was fully charged. This could have destroyed agood battery (I checked volts - battery itself is in good condition). This cost me a lot of wasted time. Search the net you will find many complaints about this kind of battery tender (US terminology). I’m really surprised the front page of comments shows good ratings — dig back deeper! CT fix the manual, quality and add a charge completed indicator. This is an old problem with complaints for 7 years. I’ll be upgrading, so I don’t get stuck in a cold snap.

Q: green LED blinks ON/OFF and the needle bounces? What does it mean when the green LED blinks ON/OFF and the needle bounces?

    • A: With my unit I can charge the battery (Honda car battery) at 10 amps to about 80% Once it's nearing a full charge the green light goes on, unit goes into standby (amps goes to 0), green light goes off once the voltage drops a bit and so forth. That's normal, the cycles will get longer until the green light is solid. What I do, however, is as soon as that starts switch it to the 2 Amp trickle charge and let it finish off (the green light will go on solid and unit goes to standby). IMO, it's probably easier on the battery this way. A full discharge might need 2 - 3 hours at 10 amps, then another 4 - 6 hours at 2 amps to trickle charge it to 100%. It's a great charger - Canadian Tire always has some really good equipment.

Q: After plugging in unit then setting the amperage to 10A for fast charge, do I choose “charge” or activate on the 2 settings available ?

    2 Answers
    • A: There is no "activate" setting on this product; only a Battery Type selection (Conventional or Deep Cycle / AGM) and Charge Rate selection (2A or 10A). The charger will automatically start charging when you select the appropriate settings for your battery.

    • A: This product would not be suitable. You can use any of NOCO Genius models 11-1925, 11-1926 or 11-1927, with the diffeence being power (i.e charge time) and features (i.e. flexibilty to use the charger for other lead acid batteries in your household).
