    Outstanding Cooler

I am more than pleased with my cooler. I give it a 5 star. I have used mine for 5 years and it still makes ice cubes. I can not say enough good things about this cooler .

    Yes, I recommend this product.

Not for the average ( duh) consumer

Some of the reviews reveal a problem with the user, not the cooler. I feel sorry for the stores that sell them. Absorption coolers need a long time to cool down initially. This model is a bit of a challenge to get lit, and then it is hard to tell if the flame is going or not. But compared to the plug-in-the-cigarette lighter ones they are far better. If you have 120 volts, use a little fridge. If not, don't waste your money on anything that uses 12 volts, they will only get cold enough if it is cool outside, and that doesn't happen in summer when you need it. If you want cold, you need a propane cooler or ice.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

Works Great, beware of the "bad" bad reviews

I believe some people purchase this item and expect it to cool down in a few hours at their campsite using LP/DC. Unless you pack it full of ice cold items I don't think this would be possible with this cooler. If you follow the directions and have the knowledge (even though it is not in the directions) that you must A. purge the air from the gas system and B. keep the gas igniter held down to let the thermocouple heat up this cooler works GREAT. Letting the cooler cool down on MAX for 24hrs running on AC brought mine to a temperature of 0.2c with an ambient temperature of 23c. I then switched my power source to propane and the cooler was able to maintain 1.5c with mild opening and closing for 3 days. I tested the temperatures with the probe from my Fluke Multi meter and have many years of experience with more expensive propane powered coolers.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

Great - if you're patient enough to get it lit

This is an RV style fridge. It takes a long time (12-24 hrs) to cool down fully after you turn it on. It says this in the instructions somewhere and any blog on rv equipment will confirm this. I bought 1 around 2012 and paid full price after waiting 6 mths at least for it to go on sale.. Don't believe there are any other options out there for $300 range and certainly none for $130-$150 clearance price Cdn tire has been advertising in fall/16. I have 2 minor issues with it ... 1. it's a real pain to light on propane ... hard to see flame in daytime, hard to get piezo lighter to work ... I have never not got it to light, but sometimes takes several matches, a few singed hairs, lots of R rated words and a couple cold brews.. 2nd minor issue is weight ... it weighs a ton to move. Complaints aside I would buy one again in a flash even at $300 + tax regular price. Nothing else compares for the price. We camp 30 nights a summer in a converted cargo trailer and wouldn't use anything else currently on the market other than this fridge.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

    Don't buy this cooler

I used this product once or twice on AC and DC and it worked very well. Next I tried propane which is what I really bought it for - worked very well also - the first time. It never worked on propane after that. Impossible to start with piezo. I got the pilot light to light with a match but no coolth. Finally the AC/DC wouldn't work. Terrible product.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Q: can i use it on propane inside my truck just wondering if i could use the cooler on propane inside my truck overnight if no one was inside my truck sleeping? i know if i run it on dc over night that my truck will have a dead battery. dont want it ouside because of bears

    • A: Just get a good ratchet strap wrap it around the cooler, tighten it down and the bear problem is basically solved, it's even better if you strap it to a picnic table if there is one around, it stops them knocking it around, and don't think bears won't try and get in your truck ( but Canadian tire does also sell paint and bondo if they do.)

Q: my cooler works great on AC and DC but i cannot make it work on propane. The flame is clear and blue. I tried everything. what to do next? I have turned it up sides down and put it upright. let it settle. I have leveled it and put it on all angles and still nothing. What next?

    • A: Spin it upside down give it a good shake and leave it for about an hour, flip it right side up, in a clockwise motion with the front towards you, wait a few minutes, make sure it's level + or - 2 degs, The spirit level by the controls bubble should be with in the ring, fire it up and wait a few hours, absorption fridges are slow to cool down. Also I would check and see if your really using the 15 grams +3 to-1 a grams of propane / hour, just weigh the tank, run it for an hour and re-weigh the tank, if your not the burner might not be outputting enough heat for the ammonia system to run correctly ( warranty issue / repair issue ) unless your propane tank is very cold ( below zero degs C, in which case you don't really need the fridge )

Q: is this product useable outdoors i.e. camping or by pool? Can it withstand rain? just wondering if there are exposed parts/non weather-proof.

    2 Answers
    • A: This cooler is going to get destroyed if left out in the rain. The heater part that makes the absorption cooling cycle work is not at all designed for use outdoors and it's just covered with the open grill so rain will go right in. Put it under an umbrella, but don't block the air from the grate or the cooler will stop cooling. I'm going to park mine on a bench under the tarp for most of the trip. Strap it down at night to stop critters.

Q: If it is fully charged it can last up to 30 hours?

    2 Answers
    • A: "fully charged" with a 1lb propane canister??? If so then yes, you'll get 30 hours of max cooling power according to the 15g/hour consumtion rate given that a 1lb canister contains ~450g of propane.
