Blaster Metal Rescue

This stuff works great. I used it to remove the rust on a pair of bucket seat tracks from a 57 year old classic car. I gave it 4 stars because it would have been better if it was a gell, as it is difficult to completely immerse larger parts completely.

Q: This product looks similar to Thermocure, which is used in car radiators with water. Can this be diluted with water and still work? In need of something for my vehicles cooling system. Thanks

2 Answers
  • A: Not for car radiators as they are aluminum and some brass (older ones), metal rescue is more for mild steel. You are best to get a proper radiator cleaner for the job. The parts counter can help you out.

Q: Will Metal Rescue work on my cast iron skillet?

2 Answers
  • A: Yes it will work perfectly for this. To ensure the best result I would suggest using steel wool washing with soap before the bath. I would then use some wool a few times during a 24 hours soak just to accelerate the results and to ensure full removal of rust. Once done though, I trust you know the most important next step is properly seasoning the pan again to restore it's full 'non-stick' and non-rusting functionality.

Q: can metal rescue be used on cast iron BBQ grills?

1 Answer
  • A: Hi Frankie – Thank you for your interest in Metal Rescue® Rust Remover Bath of the Workshop Hero™ line of products. Metal Rescue is a rust remover designed for iron and steel and is therefore perfectly suited for treatment of cast iron as you referenced in your inquiry. The amount of Metal Rescue needed is dependent on the amount of rust present but on average one gallon of Metal Rescue Rust Remover Bath will remove about ½ lb of pure rust. Your email inquiry below questions the use of Metal Rescue and its use on items used for food preparation. Information on the FDA’s evaluation of Metal Rescue and its use on items used in food preparation is addressed in the attached memo. I have also attached a copy of the Metal Rescue Safety Data Sheet for your review. To summarize information in the attached memo as it relates to your use of Metal Rescue: Metal Rescue is a water-based solution that easily rinses with clean water. In potential FDA food-contact applications, it is recommended to thoroughly clean any food-contact surfaces according to “Good Manufacturing Practices” to eliminate any possibility of rust remover residues remaining on the metal parts or surfaces. This may include, but is not limited to, washing with FDA-approved or food-contact approved cleaner and/or sanitizer after removing rust with Metal Rescue. Provided below is a link to a YouTube video filmed to demonstrate Metal Rescue’s rust removing ability on a cast iron bbq grill grate (you may have to copy and paste it into your browser to review it): https://youtu.be/T_WKh4P4-a0 Best of luck from the Workshop Hero team.

Q: Could it be used on rusty Aluminium surfaces? Once done, rinse with water necessary? Or, let it evaporate by itself? Thanks,.

1 Answer
  • A: Hi Deniz -- Thank you for your interest in Metal Rescue® Rust Remover of the Workshop Hero™ line of products. Metal Rescue BATH is a rust remover designed for iron and steel. It is safe on metals other than iron and steel as long as they are not left in a Metal Rescue BATH soak too long. Metal Rescue BATH will remove some oxides from copper, brass, nickel and certain aluminums, however, immersion time is critical. The length of immersion time is dependent upon the amount of oxidation present and alloy composition. It is recommended that when using Metal Rescue on aluminum, that you check it approximately every hour so as not to damage the surface under the oxidation layer. No water rinse is necessary, simply remove the item from the Metal Rescue and dry thoroughly. Best of Luck!
