We apologize for the difficulty you've experienced with the blade change. The MAXIMUM 7A 4-Position Variable Speed Orbital Jigsaw with LED Light, Vacuum Adaptor & Bag is designed to make blade changes as easy as possible.
To change the blade:
1. Unplug the jigsaw and turn it upside down.
2. Depress the blade-change lever to Position a.
3. Insert the saw blade with the back resting in the groove of the blade roller guide. The blade should lock automatically.
4. Verify the blade is secure by pulling on it gently.

Q: Please confirm if the jigsaw accepts U shank blades?

A: Confirming it does take U-shank blades. Just installed one on mine the same way the T-shank goes in (very easily). The box also states it takes both T and U shank blades.
