Q: Does this strapping rust if submerged in water? Want to use it for strapping barrels to a swimming raft.

A: Dahl’s nylon coated All Round® strapping is made with galvanized steel, which is the primary material of concern in this product since it provides the load-bearing properties. Galvanizing is often used successfully to protect steel in fresh water exposure and should work well to attach flotation to a dock; the nylon coating will also offer some protection. Many things can affect corrosion of metals in a water environment including pH level, oxygen content, water temperature, agitation and tide conditions. Therefore, dahl cannot cite a specific life expectancy but suggests that the installation be inspected every 5-7 years.”
