Decent especially for the price

it works and is not expensive comes with a little bit of solder as a bonus. So if you have a soldering iron and cant find it, my current situation, this will do just fine :)

DO NOT BUY FOR ANY REASON

Not even worth 1 star. This is complete and total garbage that Mastercraft and Canadian Tire should be ashamed of selling. The temperature is far too low to do any kind of soldering and don’t even think about getting it to work with lead-free solder. Hopefully I can get my money back, but I’ll probably have to end up just throwing it in the trash where it belongs since it looks atrocious after just a few attempts to use it.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Questions

1 - 6 of 6 Questions

Q: What is the screw for on the side of the tip? The tip seems to be screw in. I can rotate the screw about 1 turn and it seems to stop. It doesnt seem to do anything in reards to making the tip easier or harder to remove

1 Answer
  • A: The screw on the side of the tip is to fix the heater inside the steel tube, not the tip. Due to it's function, rotating the screw will not release the tip!

Q: Which solder wire recommended to use for this soldering iron. Soldering wire melt temperature is 430F as mentioned on the packing but this soldering iron max temperature is 401F.

1 Answer
  • A: This iron won't really melt any kind of solder effectively as the temperature is way too low for it to be of any use whatsoever.

Q: Can this be used to mark wood? Looking to engrave/burn writing onto a wood project

1 Answer
  • A: Although the tool is not specifically designed for wood burning, yes it will do the job. A better choice if you are going to use it for only wood burning would be Mastercraft Wood Burning Kit Product #054-0180-2

Q: What Size Tips? I am looking to get some aftermarket tips and I would like to know what diameter tips are used in this model. Thanks

1 Answer
  • A: The tip diameter at contact point is .65mm The shaft is 4mm. Use only the Mastercraft 58-6113 Replacement Tips. The tool is not guaranteed using any other tips as the material of the tips can cause the tool to overheat or not get hot enough.
