Q: Manual for this Is there a manual on how this item works? While it looks self explanatory I can't get the string to pull out. There looks to be a button but it doesn't push or pull.

A: Actually, there is a button just above the crank (see the picture) that locks and unlocks the string reel. The lever that folds out so that you can wind the string back in.

Q: What exactly are the contents of the marking chalk? Using the marking chalk for more sensitive application ie. Kitchen work near food processing. I'd like to know what exactly is in the marking chalk to ensure its safety. Thanks!

A: I assume it would be the same composition as any other form of chalk. Calcium carbonate, silt, clay.
