  • A: Buy a Lincoln it’s a little more expensive but you can adjust shading and time between darkening to clear and batteries are replaceable where as this helmet has no replacement parts once battery is done you need to purchase a new one

Q: Helmet shade rating Description says auto-darkening but details say fixed shade #10...which is it?

2 Answers
  • A: "fixed shade" means that when it goes dark, it only goes to one level of darkness. If it were a "variable shade" like other more expensive helmets, you could adjust the darkness. So it is an auto-darkening helmet WITH a fixed shade. I hope that makes sense.

Q: How do I know when the battery is dead in my auto dark helmet? Do I have to just wait until my eyes go blind? How long is the battery expected to last?

1 Answer
  • A: Thanks for reaching out. As of right now, there wouldn't be any low battery indication function, but the expectation is that the battery will last around 5000 to 6000 hours dependent upon it's usage and working environment. A test function can be put into future considerations, and if your battery does end up dying, your eyes would be flashed by a stronger light, but not one that could potentially affect them or be considered harmful.

Q: Does the helmet charge from the welding arc or do you h e to let it sit in sunlight to charge it?

1 Answer
  • A: The battery and the solar cells are complimentary. When the voltage of the solar cells exceeded the voltage of battery, the solar cell will supply power. Otherwise the battery will supply power. When you're just starting welding, the arc-light is not strong enough, the battery will supply power. During the welding, the arc will charge the solar cells.
