    Short lasting

I am on my third one. The iron fails to heat up after 5 or 6 hours of work on stained glass. Because it has a 3 year warranty, CT has replaced it but my 3 years are up. Unfortunately, CT does not carry any other soldering iron for stained glass. I will have to go elsewhere When this last one fails, and I'm sure it will.

No, I do not recommend this product.

    Mastercraft 80 Watt Iron

I have purchased two of these, used them many times, and so far have had no trouble with them as has been the case with other reviewers. I use the irons for installing antenna fittings on coax cable. When doing so I need the thermal mass of the big tip. Happy with them. In my case I only have them in operation half an hour at a time.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

Great soldering iron for the money, and good for a first timer at stained glass. Which is why i bought this product for the first time.

    Questions

    1 - 2 of 2 Questions

Q: Are there other tips available? The two tips that come with this model are too wide for my use. Are there other tips that can be purchased, specifically a tip that has a point on it?

    • A: get a different iron with lower wattage. this high wattage iron is used for stained glass where lots lof solder is melted. A fine tip would be heated way too much. you probably want an electronics iron, which is typically 25 Watts with fine tip. happy hunting

    • A: SI le fer à souder possède une puissance de 80 watts et que dans un prise de courrant ordinaire à la maison il y a 120 volts de tension, il y aura donc 0,667 ampères.
