Questions
Q: Need something to cut through a 16 inch stump of wood.....is this product sufficient rather than buying a chainsaw which i will never use again? I know the chainsaw would be quicker but how long do you think it would take to cut through? Thank you.
6 years agoA: If you don’t have access to a chainsaw (borrowing or renting), or you are not confident to use one (they can be VERY dangerous if you aren’t trained), the next best option for cutting a 16” stump is a bow saw. Reason being, on a bow saw the blade is in tension all the time, whereas on a hand saw such as the one above when you are making the cut, pushing the blade, it is in compression. When the blade starts to bind up (and it will, as you get deeper into the wood), not only is there more blade surface area to stick to the wood making it harder to push through, you will find it hard to stop the blade from buckling as you push it. If you can find a two-person bow saw that would make the job much easier (like the ones the pioneers used to use before power chainsaws were invented), but again then you’re getting into a lot of capital outlay for a tool you’ll likely never use again. My advise is to ask around to see if anyone you know or anyone they know has a chainsaw and doesn’t mind coming over to do it. It would be a 5 minute job for them.

Q: How do i sharpen the teeth of the hand saw How do i sharpen the teeth? Can this saw be used to saw tree branches of 10 cm diameter?
11 years agoA: I used it to cut a tree stump of 20 cm diameter. It took a while, but it worked. I've also done 10 cm handily.
