Good value, useful assortment

This set is a good value, especially when on sale. The tools are made from decent high speed steel and hold their edge quite well. Personally, I do not care for oval skews but I use the other tools in the set on a regular basis. The 1/2" bowl gouge and 3/8" spindle gouge are two of my most frequently used tools even though I have premium quality and priced tools in those same profiles. I would suggest that the user who broke his spindle roughing gouge twice is very likely using it inappropriately, like on face grain work rather than spindle work.

Not Worth The Trouble

I've had this set for just over a year. Since buying it, I've broken the roughing gouge twice. Both times it broke at the joint between the handle and the steel. The actual steel snapped both times.
There are 6 tools in this set:
1) Skew Chisel - Not bad, but the curved profile is hard to deal with
2) Parting Tool - Seems good
3) Spindle Gouge - Works fine if you regrind the profile
4) Curved Scraper - Also fine, if you don't mind regrinding the shape
5) Bowl Gouge - I've not been able to get this thing to work. The shape is strange, and not very useful
6) Roughing Tool - This thing is a piece of junk. It is very different from all of the professional quality roughing gouges. The steel is garbage, and has broken twice for me.
No, I do not recommend this product.

Q: Faceplate or Spindle Are these tools designed for "faceplace" type turning or "Spindle" type turning. These are two different types of wood-turning, and the tools are a little different.

A: This set contains a 1" oval skew chisel, a 3/8" spindle gouge, a diamond profile 3/16" parting tool and a 3/4" spindle roughing gouge which are used in spindle turning. It also includes a 3/4" round nosed scraper and a 1/2" bowl gouge which are used for faceplate turning.
