058-8198-6 Nailer leaks air

This nailer is a piece of junk. It leaks air out of the handle. Looking at the parts list, there is nothing in the handle. I have taken it into my Canadian Tire store, they don't care about the nailer not working, it has never worked. All they want is the receipt, which of course I do not have. All I want is for someone to look at the nailer & tell me why it is not working. If someone from Canadian Tire would like to look at the floor nailer that I bought, you can contact me at my email address.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Cheap, worked well, nightmare service

I installed my first floor by using a rented nailer in leisure time. The rent was expensive. I saw this product on sale which is very cheap comparing to other brands and the rent cost. So knowing the pros and cons after read the reviews I bought it for my second floor . Worked very well but after installed about 800 sq foot, the driver started causing problem. No matter how often I clean the drive channel and use lubricant, the driver just does not spring back fully often and often. So I had to call service number and brought it to their service depot Swish in Oakville. After two weeks, I got the call and the product was ready for pickup. I hooked it to compressor to test but the air leaked between the body and the cap (This is new problem). I could not even test the driver (But they said they tested before call me but I cannot figure it out how test it without enough air pressure.). I brought it back to the service depot second day. After one month long waiting, no call. I had to call them. To my surprise I had to pay for the service because them did not find anything wrong! They said that the air leaking could be caused by the air compressor (I just don't understand how this could happy but they insist and ask me bring in the compressor if the the air still leak but they will charge for the inspection of my compressor!) OMG, I must be crazy to bring a working nailer to the service and let the unfinished floor be a mess for one and half month! Maybe they realized that I am not so low in IQ and waived the half hour labor charge. I would recommend this product to others if they want a very cheap, flexible, and disposable nailer for small projects.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: What brands of 1.5" "L" cleats are compatible and where can I get them? I want to install 5/8" bamboo hardwood flooring. The recommendation is 1 1/2" "L" 16 gauge flooring cleats. I could not find them at Canadian Tire. Will any brand of 1 1/2" L 16 gauge cleat work in the Mastercraft 3 in 1 flooring nailer?

Q: The nailer is firing too deep. How to adjust? Fires 2" cleats way too deep I tried turning the whack cap CCW as instructed, no change in depth. Anything else I can try? I run at 90 psi which Instructions say is minimum.

  • A: SImple reduce the PSI, use a scrap piece of wood, try at 80psi first and go from there.

Q: Where can I get parts for this nailer? I have a leak coming from the handle. I've opened it up and it is leaking through what I think is some sort of regulator...There is a spring attached to this part, if that helps.

  • A: I fixed the leak from my handle simply using the included Allen key to torgue up the screws that hold the handle to the body.

Q: What is the magazine capacity, operating pressure and max PSI?

2 Answers
  • A: not sure of the mag capacity, but it takes an entire row out of a standard box of floor nails! Operating PSI is 90, however i have run it between 90psi and 100psi, Reason for this is 90 psi was great for regular wood, but the bamboo i'm working with now is 3 times harder than red oak, so i'm running at 99-100psi. You should really have a compressor that allows you to adjust the psi setting.

Q: Will it fire properly with 4 CFM? After checking the CFM needed, nervous about working with my compressor 26 gal. 1.5HP oil-less - 5 cfm at 40lbs & 4 cfm at 90lbs. I checked other brands - haven't seen any that will deliver this high CFM.

  • A: I assure you that you will work so slowly with this tool that cfm will never be an issue. You need about 100psi to drive successfully.
