Low pressure flow is very low, inadequate

I bought this to blow out my sprinklers for winterizing. It does not pump enough air even though it is nominally 2hp. My older 8 gallon compressor like this had plenty of air flow, also with a 2hp compressor. The detailed specs for this machine actually say that the maximum flow is 3 CFM, which is the same as the 40 psi flow. That makes no sense. The 8 gallon tank version, also 2hp, has slightly higher flows of 5 CFM at 40 psi, but max flow is 303 cfm, i.e. 100 times as much. The specs seem to reflect my experience, but the limited low pressure flow makes no sense for a 2hp compressor. So it appears that the control system is at fault, limiting the flow rate to the 40 psi flow rate, even for low pressure flow. So...... this is a strange machine. Lots of power, but very low flow at low pressures. Useless to me. Can Tire did accept my return, a couple of days after buying it. I will buy the larger machine now. Same 2hp compressor, same high pressure flow, smaller tank, but 100x the low pressure flow in the specs, but a lot bulkier.

We regret to hear about your experience with the MASTERCRAFT 3-Gallon Electric Air Compressor. Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention, as we continually strive to improve our products. Given the importance of appropriate airflow for tasks like winterizing sprinklers, it seems that the 3 CFM flow at 40 PSI did not meet your requirements. If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please feel free to call our helpline at 1-800-689-9928.

Q: the manual says induction motor. This website says universal motor which is it?

    • A: "Induction" motors use standard 110 V household current in North america. "Universal" means it can run on both AC and DC current, not usually available in the consumer market.

Q: Does it have to be plugged-in to dispense air? I understand the compressor would not be replenish the tank if it's not plugged-in.

    • A: The question is ambiguous. 1. The electrical cord needs to be plugged in an outlet for the compressor to run. 2. An air hose does not need to be plugged into the compressor for the air pressure to build up in the tank. The compressor will stop running when the desired pressure is reached

Q: my tank gauge fills but has no pressure on tool side therefore no air out put

    1 Answer
    • A: There's a chance that the tool hose isn't connecting properly to the tank, probably not though.  My best guess is it's a piece of garbage that stopped working.  I say that because I've come to the conclusion that Canadian Tire store brands have stuck me with trash for my last bunch of purchases.  I simply don't buy them anymore.  If you can, take it back and get something else.
