Smoke from Motor

Second time I used it the motor caught fire. Smoke was pouring out. It wasn't even cutting any wood at the time. Unfortunately it was a few months out of warranty and Canadian Tire can't do anything for me.

No, I do not recommend this product.

No worth the money

Bought this product and before the 30 day warranty was up, it would not run. Soon as you turned it on it blew the breaker. Had it been over 30 days, I would have had to drive to Brighton to get it fixed. Cheaply made and not worth to money

No, I do not recommend this product.

Great for the money

Picked this up a week ago and have run close to 50 or so boards through it. Cuts great and leaves a buttery smooth finish after. The only issue I had was that it won’t fold all the way on one side because of the power switch so I have to use a bungee cord to store it.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: Lorsqu'on zoom la photo du planeur on voit bien sur l'étiquette 10 000 tours à vide. Le site indique 9000 tours et dans les spécification 8100 ? 9900 ? tours. Donc c'est imprécis! Donc merci de corriger!

Q: Is it possible to use the planer without the stand? I would like to store it out of the way and pull it out to use on a benchtop when needed.

  • A: Hello! Thank you for your question. While this unit can be used without a stand, we recommend that it's always best for the planer to be properly secured to a sturdy, stable working surface. Please visit your user manual for further guidance.

Q: I am thinking of buying this item or should i just bit yhe bullet and buy the dw735

  • A: If your not going to run a production line of wood through it this is a great option. Just make sure everything is level and true and it is a nice working machine and you save money in the end. I got mine on sale at about 30% off so even better.

Q: How do you eliminate SNIPE? This unit has bad outfeed snipe, how does one fix it?

3 Answers
  • A: Run a scrap of wood the same thickness as the board you are planing beside the last few inches of your board. The rollers should not drop and you should be snipe free.

Q: I have a 12.5 inch planer that cuts into the end of the board when it is finishing the cut even though the table is level and the board is supported. How can I stop this from happening?

2 Answers
  • A: This planer does cause “snipe”. It can be reduced by feeding multiple boards through together, but not eliminated completely in my experience.

Q: What is the thinnest material this will work on?

2 Answers
  • A: The thinnest is not my expertise. I found this planner to very robust and able to do the work. I planed 20+ rough cedar planks from 100 year old barn. I made some 2 X 8, 2X 6, and my pride and joy is a 13 ft piece 3 Inches by 10+. I think this machine can do what you want.

Q: HI when the cutter blades go dull ,can they be sharpened,or do I replace them. How do I take them out of the planer TKS

2 Answers
  • A: You have to replace them. You need 3 different sized Allen keys and a 3/8 wrench Take off dust collector, remove top and side panels, crank travelling portion of the tool all the way to the top and spin your blades so you can see the set screws. At this point you go on Google and watch 1 if many videos on replacing blades on MasterCraft planer
