1 HP electric pump

A powerful pump that moved lots of water quickly. Nice that you can hook it to a normal garden hose.

Bought this a couple of weeks ago to drain 1 window well due to the recent heavy rainfall we have had. i replaced a 15 year old 1/4 HP unit and this 1 HP pump worked as well as expected. The volume it pumps makes clean up much faster and it also lessens the danger of water entering the window. Next will be to see how long it takes to empty the 10 ft X 30 in pool !

Pump failed during initial use.

Had pimp for a week before I used it. Pump worked great..for about 2 hours, then the impeller quit working for no legitimate reason. I had three pumps going at the same time. This is the only one that quit. Then I had a hard time returning it because it was used. Not a great experience. Would not recommend this pump or buying a pump at CT.

I live in Saskatchewan, where you may have heard we had major flooding and even the roads were taken out. We, the wife and I, had to drive over 250 kms to get around areas that were shut down to get to a Cdn Tire that had 1. Once we got it brought it home and got it going in the basement. After pumping for approx 1 min the pump motor stop working. It was still humming but the impeller wasn't rotating. First time I called support I got a guy that when asked how I could get it up and working hung up. The second call was much better we tried to confirm no blockages etc and his advice was to return it. No problem with that except we now had to go another 100kms to get to a different store that the road had just opened up for and still had 1. Yes my basement was getting deeper with water. Got the second pump and it seems to be ok. Glad the 2nd guy helped me out and the basement is drained. Unfortunately the first motor may not have been filled with oil (speculation on my part, but makes sense to me for it siezing.). Service was good, with right guy, process of getting one was frustrating (based on weather and everyone else trying to do the same for their basements etc. so not sure how to rate just the part, just rated 2 for the fact quality control should have saved me a tank of gas and 2 days of frustration.

Questions

Q: I unpacked this pump to use last year but didn't need it so it sat. The box and manual are no where to be found and I know this pump needs oil. What type and how much is added. A copy of the manual would help me a lot. Thanks.

  • A: This is the answer I got last year when I asked about opening it to fill and/or check the oil level :- Hi there, Under normal usage, you should never need to do anything with the oil But to answer your question, A, it does not void any warranty. B, the oil we use is vegetable oil, not motor oil and C, there is 14 ounces of oil in the motor. Thanks

Q: My sump pump is down temporarily. I have about 25 inches of water in it. Is this unit, including the power cord, completely submersible?

  • A: Yes. Ive had it submerged under 4ft of water regularly with zero issues And it can pump out fast and right down to under an inch of water. Obviously don't let it run long with the water that low though. It'll move more water even faster if you hook up a larger hose. Larger than a garden hose I mean.

Q: For long term indoor submerged use, would this 'utility' pump or a 'sump' pump be a better fit? Thanks for your opinions :)

  • A: Hi there, This is a utility pump that needs to be plugged in and out to turn it on and off. It is designed to be left in the water and will work very well for you. Thanks

Q: Hey there I'm looking for a utility pump that i can leave in my cannal thar has enough pressure for a 100 foot garden hose. I'm using a 1/5 hp pump now that works great with 50 foot hose. Needs to be clog resistant naturally. Is this item a good fit ?

  • A: I live in a rural area and have had lots of experience with moving water. (I have been here for 30+ years) i The sump pump your now using is definitely under powered for your purpose but the one your talking about is a bit of overkill. If u want to move a lot of water I would suggest purchasing a 3/4 inch hose which will handle much more water than a a 5/8 hose despite only a small increase in diameter.

  • A: This pump has a maximum vertical head height of 40', so not recommended for this application. Suggest you look at the Mastercraft 3/4 HP Stainless Steel Irrigation Jet Pump #062-3424-6 as it has a 108' max vertical head and is designed for this type of use.
