Good working pump - does the job. Negative would be that items such as these have increased significantly in price.

Q: I was looking for a 1/6HP pump to clean out my tankless water heater. Would this 1/5HP be okay, or is it too strong? I don’t want to blow out the tank.

  • A: We bought this same pump for the same purpose.  We’ve used it several times with a vinegar/water solution and it’s been great.

  • A: I don't see why not. You might want to put some window screen under it to keep stones from entering the pump.

Q: Could this pump be used to drain an outdoor pond on the spring?

  • A: Yes, just be sure it’s not sitting in mud on the bottom . Put it on a piece of plywood or inside a large pail with holes punched in the bottom so that it doesn’t get plugged up

Q: 1) What is the minimum amount of water it will siphon? 2) Is there a filter built into the intake to prevent debris? I want to use it to pump water in a low spot from my yard. 3) What size garden hose is the discharge valve for?

3 Answers
  • A: 1/ What is the minimum amount of water it will siphon? Pump must be submerged in at least 1” of water to prime the pump and then the pump will draw down to about 1/4”. 2/ Is there a filter built into the intake to prevent debris? I want to use it to pump water in a low spot in my yard. Yes the pump has a screen that prevents objects greater than a diameter of 1/4” from entering the pump. Try not to place the pump on grass or soil…use a cookie sheet, frisbee or plastic lid below the pump to help prevent clogging. 3/ What size garden hose is the discharge valve for? The pump comes with a 3/4” garden hose adapter outlet which can be removed to expose a 1” male pipe thread outlet.

Q: Would this work for watering a garden from a rain barrel with a sprinkler attachment on the hose? Or would that put too much pressure on the motor?

2 Answers
  • A: It would work well for your application. Centrifugal pumps can pump against pressure as long as there is enough flow to keep the pump cool. Using a sprinkler would be fine.
