Low quality

I had the old model of this. It is a low quality ratchet. It blocks then slips. Really not good. In comparison, I work with the smaller 3/8 Mastercraft ratchet and that one is perfect, really tough. But this 1/2 one can't recommend.

Great until you use it

Looks nice, feels decent. All is well until you use it.
The direction mechanism keeps reversing in the middle of a job when you apply any load to it.
This frustrated me enough to ditch the ratchet and go for the breaker bar. My 1/4" and 3/8" MC ratchets don't do this.
I see they are discontinued, hopefully the replacements are better. Will have to wait until a new one comes out to warranty it I guess.

Faulty Design

Great ratchet until it stops working.
First one lasted a couple of years. Replacement lasted a couple of weeks. I now see all the stores have them on backorder. Perhaps a design/supplier change - am waiting to replace the 2nd defective one.
When it fails, the ratchet automatically toggles between tighten/untighten while using it. Oddly, the same design 1/4" ratchet I have is also starting doing that as well.

This ratchet SUCKS!

I'm a professional mechanic and have used a lot of Mastercraft tools over the years. When my trusty old Mastercraft 1/2 drive ratchet finally wore out, I picked up this one as a replacement and all I can say is that the quality of Mastercraft tools, which used to be quite good for the price, is sadly going down the toilet!!! The reversing key on this thing keeps sticking and self-reversing and the teeth are really stiff which keeps the tool from ratcheting unless the fastener is already snug .... this might cure itself with a little wear but the way it goes now, I'm not encouraged to use it at all

Weekend use, hobby tool

I do not recommend for daily/ professional use. The polished finish is nice but dulls quickly but does make for easy clean up, for a half in ratchet it is on the short end. Extra length would help with leverage. Switch sticks and jams, gears can't handle heavy use.
